Responsibilities

  • Supervise installation and maintenance of traffic signals and equipment; manage work orders.
  • Plan and coordinate work for contractors and crews; ensure adherence to contracts.
  • Oversee use and maintenance of tools; collaborate with engineers on projects.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Respond to traffic signal issues from callers and dispatch; program flashers and controllers.
  • Create and manage preventative maintenance for intersections and equipment.
  • Ensure safe, compliant installation of signals, poles, and lights.
  • Provide specifications and seek methods to improve production/effectiveness.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Overview

The Supervisor-Traffic Signal supervises, counsels, and oversees all crews performing various skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical signals for the transportation department.

Essential Functions
  • 1 Supervises, monitors, and oversees all installation and maintenance of traffic signals and equipment; tracks and maintains work orders and requests, and facilitates crews performing various traffic signal maintenance for the transportation department.
  • 2 Plans, draws, and coordinates work orders for contractors, electricians, and city crews; discusses service work, assigns work, delegates activities, transports crew to work location, and supervises adherance to work contracts.
  • 3 Supervises the use, care, and maintenance of required tools and materials; works with engineers and specialized workers on challenging electrical projects; implements work orders and performs inspection work to ensure completion.
  • 4 Participates in hiring, training, and delivering performance evaluations and personnel administration; maintains records and documents, tracks expenses, monitors maintenance of tools, and ensures completion of tasks and projects.
  • 5 Responds to calls from TMS, citizens, schools, 311 dispatch, and other sources regarding traffic signal problems; programs school flashers and other traffic signal electronics; handles quick fixes and resting of controllers, load switches, flashers, clocks, and monitors.
  • 6 Creates, assigns, and maintains Preventative Maintenance program for intersection cabinets and the associated equipment; maintains spreadsheet and tracks activities at various intersections; provides professional troubleshooting for electrical cabinets.
  • 7 Oversees and supervises the accurate, safe, and efficient installation of signals, poles, and lights for all traffic and street requirments; checks, evaluates, and inspects wor ensure activities meet transportation standards.
  • 8 Provides and discusses specifications; finds, recommends, and implements methods to improve production or effectiveness.
  • 9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
  • 1 Knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • 2 Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • 3 Knowledge of electronics and electrical maintenance.
  • 4 Knowledge of traffic signals and equipment.
  • 5 Ability to program electronics and solve technical problems.
  • 6 Ability to train and instruct others in proper and safe work procedures.
  • 7 Ability to read diagrams and schematics.
  • 8 Ability to troubleshoot electronics and develop procedures.
  • 9 Ability to plan sequence of operations, direct crews, ensure efficiency, and resolve issues.
  • 10 Ability to stand, bend, and lift items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • 11 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
  • 12 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years of experience in the installation/testing/diagnosis/repair of instrumentation or related electronic equipment, including component-level repairs.

Two (2) years of supervisory or lead work responsibilities.

EQUIVALENCY:

An associate's degree in an Electronic Technology field plus two (2) years of required experience and two (2) years of supervisory or lead work responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE:

Valid driver's license with good driving record.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds

Ability to bend/stoop/climb and work in confined spaces

Salary Range

$60,569.60 - $73,528.00

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
