Job Summary

The Supervisor, Sales Tax leads and supervises the day-to-day operations of the sales tax team including daily management of sales tax transactions for the organization and monitoring the workload of all team members to ensure deadlines are being met. Coaches and leads team members in individual growth and development.

Responsibilities

Essential functions

  • Oversees and leads multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including filing, reporting, and remittance.
  • Ensures service level agreements with business and deadlines are met.
  • Coordinates and leadssales tax audits across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring proper documentation and timely response.
  • Researches and interprets tax regulations to ensure compliance with state and local laws.
  • Assists in implementing tax strategies to optimize and minimize risk.
  • Provides guidance to internal teams on sales tax matters, including exemptions and nexus rules.
  • Maintains tax records and documentation to support audits and reporting requirements.
  • Leads process improvement for sales tax compliance, including automation and system enhancements.
  • Supervises and mentors tax staff, providing training, coaching, and professional development.
  • Conducts mid-year and year-end performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders to uphold the company’s reputation and to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures the accurate collection, maintenance, and reporting of tax information in alignment with company requirements.
  • Oversees the accurate and timely filing of sales and use tax returns for all applicable states and cities.
  • Researches and provides consultation on various sales tax matters.
  • Ensure all tax functions meet the company’s high-quality standards and are staffed with qualified personnel.

Qualifications
  • Four-year accounting, finance or business administration degree required.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience required.
  • 7+ years of experience in multi-state sales and use tax, including filing and coordinating audits.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar designation required.
