Job description

Position Summary

A Surgical Technologist with oversight for a subspecialty, which may include accountability for other team members within the department. The position demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile technique and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of special procedures.

Required Experience: Three (3) years of hospital CVOR Surgical Technologist experience.

Responsibilities
  • Review preferences and verify case cart completeness prior to procedures.
  • Maintain an orderly surgical field and pass instruments and supplies efficiently to the surgeon.
  • Anticipate and prioritize needs during procedures.
  • Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
  • Maintain surgical specimens appropriately for pathology evaluation.
  • Assist in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under management guidance.
  • Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications throughout the facility (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs).
Qualifications

Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a surgical technology training program, U.S. Military Medical Core Training, or equivalent on-the-job training.

Licensure/Certification: National certification as a Surgical Technologist, to be completed within six months of hire, from one of the following:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by NBSTSA, renewed every 4 years.
  • Tech in Surgery - Certified by NCCT, renewed annually.

Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification required.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of hospital CVOR Surgical Technologist experience.
