Job summary

Guthrie is seeking a Supervisor of Sterile Processing Technicians to oversee I and II staff, coordinate workflow, and promote safe, standard work practices across the department. Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Central sterile processing certification preferred; must obtain within 18 months of hire.
  • Experience supervising sterile processing workflows is desirable.

Summary

The Supervisor of Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for oversight and supervision of all Sterile Processing Technicians I and II. Role also includes facilitation of workflow, ensuring and auditing compliance with best practice, developing and promoting standard work, and assist the rest of the leadership team to ensure safe patient care. The Supervisor of Sterile Processing will also collaborate with other leaders in the system and/or organization to promote best practice strategies and optimize interdepartmental collaboration.

Education, License & Certification

High School education or GED required. Central sterile processing certification preferred. Must obtain certification within 18 months of hire to maintain employment.

Essential Functions
  1. Is a leader and supervisor for Standard Work in all areas of Sterile Processing to properly handle instruments/equipment and provide safe patient care. Understands and references manufacturer's instructions for use, as well as professional standards. Demonstrates ability to prioritize and facilitate a continuous workflow of instruments/equipment through the department.
  2. Maintains competency and functions as a Sterile Processing Technician according to operational needs of the department.
  3. Responsible for reporting and updating Sterile Processing Manager Software.
  4. Communicate and work collaboratively with other staff and leadership in the department, as well as staff and leaders from other units and entities. Represents the department and hospital in a professional, courteous manner.
  5. Responsible for hiring and evaluating of personnel in collaboration with SPD Manager, and SPD Educator.
  6. Addresses behaviors requiring corrective action in collaboration with Manager, Director, and Human Resources
  7. Recognizes positive performance of staff and promotes professional and collaborative work environment.
  8. Support a work environment that actively achieves/maintains a high‐ functioning and engaged team. Demonstrate understanding and ability to escalate concerns as necessary.
  9. Attend and lead departmental in‐ services, huddles, and meetings. Understand key quality measures and actively develop and participate in problem solving and performance improvement activities. Utilize lean management principles and actively work on the performance board.
  10. Act as a clinical resource for staff and acts as coach and mentor for staff to promote utilization of standard work and best practice.
  11. Participates in the orientation, education, and yearly competency process.
  12. Demonstrates effective leadership, fiscal responsibility, time management, flexibility, prioritization, and critical thinking skills in performance of duties.
  13. Demonstrates knowledge and maintains competency of standard work / key work processes.
  14. Applies principles of microbiology, disinfection, sterilization, and modes of disease transmission to promote an infection free environment.
  15. Oversees and is a subject matter expert in the departmental electronic instrument management system.
  16. Participates in establishing goals, activities to meet goals, and measurement for success in alliance with the overall organizational goals. Participates in interdisciplinary work teams to enhance flow and patient care outcomes.
  17. Responsible for ordering and maintaining the departmental supplies for the sterile processing department.
Other Duties
  1. Demonstrates willingness to accept non‐ routine work assignments as appropriate.
  2. Travel to other entities is sometimes required.
