Job description

Supervisor Sterile Processing - Second Shift

Join us to apply for the Supervisor Sterile Processing - Second Shift role at Advocate Health.

The Sterile Processing Supervisor will coordinate and supervise daily operations of decontamination, preparation, sterilization (gas, steam), and distribution of medical/surgical supplies and equipment throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring staff, assisting in orientation, implementing policies and procedures, and planning for department growth. In the absence of the manager, the supervisor is responsible for department operations.

Shift Details

Monday-Friday, 3pm-11:30pm.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Supervise support personnel to ensure efficient staff utilization.
  2. Monitor sterilization, decontamination, cleaning, processing, storage, and delivery of supplies.
  3. Prepare work schedules to ensure proper staffing.
  4. Coordinate daily assignments and adjust workflows as needed.
  5. Adhere to hospital and departmental policies; document actions taken.
  6. Manage time cards and track workflow and productivity.
Staff Development and Inventory Management
  1. Select, orient, develop, evaluate, and motivate staff.
  2. Conduct performance reviews.
  3. Oversee inventory of supplies, maintain par levels, and order supplies as necessary.
Quality Control and Budget Oversight
  1. Ensure procedures follow safety and quality standards.
  2. Assist in developing and managing departmental budgets, including revenue, expenses, and capital budgets.
  3. Monitor budgets, investigate variances, and maintain accurate chargemaster and RVUs.
Qualifications
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience.
  • CRCST Certification or CSPDT required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical-surgical procedures, infection control, microbiology, sterilization, and surgical instrumentation.
Physical Requirements

May involve heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds), exposure to hazardous materials, and availability 24/7 for seminars, updates, and operational needs.
