Job Description:
To supervise the daily operations of the department. To demonstrate team leadership qualities, identify improvement opportunities and assist in the development of processes. To provide services to any area that requires reprocessing of sterile instrumentation. To clean, assemble and sterilize instrument sets for surgery. To assemble and organize case carts for surgery. To stock supplies and perform biological testing of sterilizers. To operate all sterilization equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supervises the daily operations of the department and serves as a role model in the skills of coaching and mentoring of new employees.
2. Determines daily assignments and ensures that appropriate breaks and meals are scheduled. Assists manager with employee counseling and evaluation.
3. Resolves conflicts between the OR and central sterile processing. Identifies improvement opportunities and, in cooperation with nurse manager, develops processes to address.
4. Cleans, assembles, sterilizes instrument sets for surgery, and assembles and organizes case carts for surgery. Stocks supplies, performs biological testing of sterilizers, and operates all sterilization equipment.
5. Follows established guidelines, policies and procedures of the hospital as well as the department.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent and previous experience in Sterile Supply required. Must currently hold either the Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA). In addition, candidates must be certified or eligible for certification in Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) by the (CBSPD). If not already certified, this certification must be obtained within two (2) years of hire into the classification.
