Job summary

UMMC in Jackson, MS seeks a Supervisor for Sterile Processing to plan, assign and supervise staff performing ordering, processing, receiving and distribution of medical equipment and supplies. Collects, records and reports on data/metrics; collaborates with manager on scheduling and staffing; participates in SPD staff training and in-services.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of sterile processing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise receipt, verification, storage, and distribution of patient equipment, materials, instruments, and supplies.
  • Supervise employees to include work allocation, training, evaluation, and problem resolution.
  • Monitor daily inventory balances and determine stocking requirements.
  • Monitor and facilitate workflow, maximizing space and resources to improve efficiency.
  • Prepare reports; maintain supply database, records, and files.
  • Promote workplace safety and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and infection control practices.

Job Summary

TO PLAN, ASSIGN, AND SUPERVISE EMPLOYEES ENGAGED IN PERFORMING A VARIETY OF SERVICES INVOLVED IN THE ORDERING, PROCESSING, RECEIVING, AND DISTRIBUTION OF MEDICAL AND PATIENT EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES. COLLECTS, RECORDS AND REPORTS ON DATA/METRICS. COLLABORATES WITH MANAGER ON SCHEDULING AND DEPARTMENT STAFFING. PARTICIPATES IN SPD STAFF WORK/FUNCTION AS NEEDED. ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN THE PLANNING OF INSERVICES AND STAFF EDUCATION.

Education & Experience

Associates Degree preferred, High School Diploma or GED required; Minimum 5 years of sterile processing experience

Certifications, Licences or Registration Required

Any 1 (one) of the following:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
  • Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER)
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS)
  • Certified Healthcare Leadership (CHL)
  • Certified Surgical Instrument Processor (CSIP)
  • Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS)
  • Other nationally recognized SPD certifications considered

A second certification from this list must be acquired within 6 months of hire date.

  • KNOWLEDGE OF PRODUCT STERILITY, STORAGE, AND PROCESSING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

Responsibilities
  • SUPERVISES THE RECEIPT, VERIFICATION, STORAGE, AND DISTRIBUTION OF PATIENT EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, INSTRUMENTS, AND SUPPLIES.
  • SUPERVISES EMPLOYEES TO INCLUDE WORK ALLOCATION, TRAINING, EVALUATION, AND PROBLEM RESOLUTION.
  • MONITORS DAILY INVENTORY BALANCES AND COLLABORATES IN DETERMINING STOCKING REQUIREMENTS.

  • PROMOTES CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT IN WORKPLACE SAFETY; ENSURES COMPLIANCE WITH SAFETY, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND/OR INFECTION CONTROL PRACTICES.
