Job summary

CommonSpirit Health’s St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO, seeks a Supervisor Sterile Processing to lead daily operations across decontamination, processing, and sterilization. You will supervise staff, assign tasks, and drive performance improvements to support safe patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Central Sterile Tech (CBSPD) required.
  • Within 1 year obtain CIS/CSIS/CER/C-FER/CHL/CSPM/CASSPT.
  • Two years of sterile processing experience.
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines (AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, OSHA).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily Sterile Processing operations: decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution.
  • Coach and train staff; provide performance feedback and development opportunities.
  • Coordinate with departments to anticipate needs and ensure timely completion of requests.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital standards.
  • Handle labeling, storage, and sterility of instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain and manage department assets and quality control initiatives.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Supervisor Sterile Processing, you will lead daily operations in decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution, ensuring seamless support for patient care. You'll play a crucial role in maintaining high standards for sterile supplies and equipment.

Every day you will oversee staff, assign tasks, and evaluate performance within the Sterile Processing department. You will contribute to staff development through training and performance management, help manage departmental assets, and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to optimize service delivery and patient safety.

To be successful in this role, you will bring proven expertise in sterile processing techniques, compliance, and team leadership. Your ability to direct staff, implement quality controls, and effectively manage resources will be essential for advancing our mission and optimizing departmental efficiency in a healthcare setting.

  • Coordinates daily activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities and evaluating and directing work. Facilitates accurate and timely processing of instruments and supply delivery.
  • Provides coaching and training to the Sterile Processing department staff regarding process and technique, compliance, and documentation. Provides ongoing performance feedback. Advises staff regarding the correction of operational errors to encourage and support best practice.
  • Act as a liaison with various departments; anticipates the needs of the customer and assures timely completion of requests and resolves any conflicts and/or problems.
  • Assists with compliance with all regulatory agencies, Federal, State, and hospital standards.
  • Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and wraps or packages supplies and instruments using proper techniques and procedures, and sterilizes supplies and instruments using the prescribed method.
  • Assures that sterilized supplies and instruments are correctly labeled and stored in a manner to ensure sterility and understands that all storage areas are to be in compliance with any applicable regulatory guidelines. Assists with storing sterilized items and equipment in a specified location. Understands all storage areas are to be in compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines.
Job Requirements
Required
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Certified Registered Central Services Tech or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Upon hire, or within one (1) year of hire or transfer, must obtain one of the following: CIS, CSIS, CER, C-FER, CHL, CSPM, CASSPT
  • Two (2) years of sterile processing experience
  • Knowledge of all regulatory guidelines and standards of practice as it relates to AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission and OSHA
