Job summary

Polaris Laboratories in Indianapolis, IN seeks a Supervisor, Specialty Testing to lead the daily production and performance of the Specialty Testing Team. You will direct quality and safety activities to ensure ISO 17025 compliance and alignment with the Polaris Quality System.

You will manage staff, plan schedules, review production results, and ensure timely turnaround while maintaining a safe work environment. Prior lab leadership and experience with safety procedures are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline, chemistry preferred.
  • Experience operating in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer disciplinary actions - record and deliver disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Approve requests for time off.
  • Approves overtime.
  • Ensure staff is adequately trained to perform assigned duties.
  • Ensure staff is adhering to all policies and procedures as defined by the POLARIS Quality System.
  • Ensure that staff is adhering to and following all company policies and safety procedures.
  • Monitor available time-off for staff to ensure adequate coverage for workload.
  • Participates in interviews for potential hires.
  • Train and audit new and existing lab personnel.
  • Train and develop needs of staff.
  • Write and deliver employee reviews for staff.
  • Perform sample analysis as needed.
  • Assist in safety training and ensure compliance.
  • Audit production for accuracy.
  • Become knowledgeable of and adhere to all requirements of the POLARIS Quality System.
  • Ensure all equipment is calibrated and operating within acceptable guidelines as per Quality System.
  • Ensure a compliant and safe work environment.
  • Ensure production timelines are met.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair laboratory equipment.
  • Manage inventory of consumable materials.
  • Manage and review production reports.
  • Manage end of shift, end of month, and safety checklists.
  • Manage and review QC documentation.
  • Manage hazardous waste/used oil pick up as needed.
  • Monitor quality of test results.
  • Observe and read instrumentation to determine operating conditions during testing.
  • Plan schedules and work flow.
  • Responsible for turnaround time, outsourcing and reporting at daily communication meeting.
  • Review daily production report and status.
  • Routine review of testing performed.
  • Routine review of documents generated in laboratory.
  • Routine review of maintenance records of equipment.
  • Limited lab equipment maintenance and repair to ensure proper equipment function.
  • Supervise lab employees and facilitate production.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Purpose

This position is responsible for the daily production and overall performance of the Specialty Testing Team, as well as Specialty Testing samples from all other POLARIS facilities.   • OSHA laws require the use of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have the potential of risk to your health or safety. At POLARIS Laboratories, when going through the Laboratory it is required that you wear eye protection.
  • Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE. POLARIS Laboratories provides the required PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your Manager.
  • To ensure safety throughout the facility, all employees are required to maintain up to date HAZMAT, OSHA, RCRA, Methylene Chloride, and General Laboratory Safety training as defined within the POLARIS Quality System.
