Job summary

First Student is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee day-to-day shop operations, diagnose and repair buses, and ensure the fleet is safe and reliable for service.

You will lead the maintenance team, coordinate with operations, schedule preventive maintenance, review repair orders, and manage parts and costs while upholding company and regulatory standards.

This role requires a high school diploma, CDL, and several years of supervisory mechanical experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Valid CDL with all required endorsements.
  • At least three years of hands-on mechanical and supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and other fleet maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues involving diesel engines, buses, and related equipment.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repair work as needed.
  • Coordinate vehicle availability with dispatch, the Maintenance Manager, and other operations personnel.
  • Plan and distribute daily work assignments based on shop priorities and operational needs.
  • Delegate responsibilities, monitor performance, and provide direction and support to maintenance employees.
  • Assist with personnel matters, including hiring, promotions, performance management, and disciplinary recommendations, subject to management review and approval.
  • Ensure day-to-day compliance with company policies and all applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Review repair orders for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
  • Work closely with location leadership to provide updates on fleet condition, maintenance priorities, staffing, and budget needs.
  • Order parts, fuel, and outside repair services when required.Oversee vehicle fueling and related maintenance support activities.
  • Coordinate building or grounds services when assigned.
  • Identify opportunities to improve shop productivity, operating efficiency, safety, and vehicle reliability.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

At First Student, our Maintenance Supervisors play a key role in keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready for service. This position oversees the day-to-day maintenance operation while remaining actively involved in the diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of buses and related equipment.

The Maintenance Supervisor leads the shop team, coordinates vehicle availability with operations, and ensures all maintenance work meets company, state, and federal requirements.

Pay: $70,000 - $80,000/year based on experience and qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Basic computer and maintenance‑recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to lift approximately 20 to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions

This position works primarily in a maintenance shop environment and is regularly exposed to dust, dirt, grease, noise, and other conditions associated with vehicle repair.

The Maintenance Supervisor must be able to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work underneath vehicles, including while lying on a mechanic's dolly. The position requires regular hands‑on work involving buses and maintenance equipment.
