Job summary

Westlake Chemical is seeking a Plant Manager/production supervisor to oversee a manufacturing facility and ensure sales requirements are met. You will supervise production personnel and QA technicians, implement safety programs, and drive Lean initiatives to improve efficiency and quality.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in a related field, 5 years of manufacturing experience, and 2 years of management experience. Strong English communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/ Manufacturing/ Mechanical Engineering or related field; preferred.
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience.
  • 2 years of management experience.
  • Strong reading, speaking and writing in English; bilingual Spanish helpful.
  • Ability to train exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Strong math and computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise production personnel and quality assurance technicians.
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed and safety meetings occur.
  • Review production schedules and manage raw material inventories to meet schedules.
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing and other process-improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with HR and Training for staff development and annual certifications.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and participate in hiring.

We work together to enhance peoples' lives through our products and presence in the communities in which we operate.SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Plant Manager, assist in the management of the production facility to meet sales requirements by supervising production personnel and quality assurance technicians.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTYComply with Westlake Safety Policies and ProceduresEnsure plant facilities and equipment are maintained to meet production schedules by assisting in training production personnel in preventive maintenance and establishing a preventive maintenance schedule.Recommend operating objectives, plans for the production facility to meet the plant’s overall business goals. Report, as required, on the facility’s performance against those objectives.Monitor safety programs to eliminate industrial accidents. Ensure that manufacturing supervisors hold regular safety meetings, monitor safety practices and their use of safety equipment.Hold regular quality meetings to ensure that all employees are well trained and aware of quality control measures and the quality of the product meets or exceeds Boral standards, along with International Congress of Building Official (ICBO) and Universal Building Code (UBC).Review production schedules and plan raw material inventories to achieve those schedules.Ensure that all production personnel are trained by supervising appropriate training programs and discuss with the Plant Manager.Responsible for implementing and coordinating in conjunction with the Plant Manager Lean processesManufacturing/Continuous Process Improvement programs and plant quality programs.Ensures that all production operation shift personnel are appropriately trained by partnering with Human Resources and Training Management, Plant Manager, and applicable functional departments. Monitors and assures that all annualized training requirements and/or certifications are completed on time.Conducts a comprehensive review of Process Improvement and Lean Manufacturing programs functions within the plant. In addition, develop and network to identify and promote the sharing of ‘Best Practices”.Assist in conducting the formal and informal performance appraisals and hiring new employeesAll other duties as requested or assigned by Line Supervisor.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment manuals, and company manuals and procedures.Honest, dedicated, and enthusiastic team player with solid work ethic.Versed in training and development of exempt and non-exempt employeesGood communication skills and ability to read, speak, write English (bilingual Spanish helpful)Ability to observe, identify, deduce and troubleshoot equipment malfunctionsQuick learner and ability to work under minimal supervisionParticipated in one or more of the following process improvements: Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Cost of Quality, Demand Flow Technology, JIT, TQM, ISO 9000-2000, Kaizen, 5S.Ability to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds, levels and positionsMath skills and computer skillsCommunicate effectively and tactfully to different levels in the organization in person and on the telephone.Able to handle confidential information.Computer literate in Excel, Word and Power Point; SAP desirable.Ability to attention to detailsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical or related Engineering, preferred but not required if sufficient equivalent experience5 years of manufacturing experience2 years management experienceESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTThe employee should possess the ability to:Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortableWithstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or outProlong standing or in stationary positionComplete repetitive movementsBend and/or twistLift/move/transport items up to 50 poundsAbility to move or traverse about the facilitiesAbility to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditionsWear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection)Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US markets.
