Summary
The Security supervisor is responsible for carrying out all supervisory responsibilities of the Security department in accordance with the department and hospital policies and procedures, under the supervision of the Security Director. The Security supervisor will make themselves available for emergencies, including but not limited to the need to respond to the property during off hours, if possible.
Responsibilities
- (30%) * On a system-wide organizational basis works with department managers/directors in developing and implementing the organization's security policies, procedures, and programs. Establishes a security program to ensure personnel and property protection. Recommends and implements procedures and systems for visitor control, employee identification, and safeguard of organization facilities, equipment, materials, and employee property. Investigate loss control and accident reports. May coordinate and administer security clearances. Requires problem solving capabilities and ability to react quickly in sensitive situations.
- (30%) * Follows up on all incident reports and dispatch entries. Ensure that all reports and entries are filled out properly and communicated to the proper person.
- (25%) * . Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, expedites workflow, and issues written and oral instructions.
- (15%) * Interviews, selects, trains and orients new personnel; disciplines personnel as appropriate.
- OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for any security activities that occur.
- Develops, implements, and maintains department policies and procedures with Security director's approval.
- Completes job performance reviews of staff; performs coaching of staff.
- Checks wand reports and informs leads of the report.
- Ensures all policies and procedures are carried out.
- Train security employees on defensive tactics, weapon use (Batons, handcuffs).
- The security supervisor will respond to an active shooter or other lethal threat and neutralize the threat if possible.
- Responds to hospital emergency overhead pages as determined by security dispatch.
- Conducts random patrols.
- Notifies the Security Director via chain of command, for all major incidents that occur of facility property.
- Responds to all calls received from the public, hospital staff, and the security dispatcher.
- Will have HR responsibility for performance reviews, hiring decisions, disciplines, but will work in conjunction with manager/director for any nonroutine decisions.
- Follows all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
- Assist director in budget and/or ordering of supplies, etc. for security department.
- May fill in for manager/director when absent and attain that decision making authority for short periods of time

Certifications and Licensures
- Credential: DRIVERSLIC: Drivers License
- Equivalent Experience: Must have and maintain a valid drivers license.
- Credential: CPL: Concealed Pistol License
- Credential: MCOLES FIREARMS: MI Commission on Law Enforcement Firearms
- Equivalent Experience: Required annually after hire.
Required Education
- Education: Associates Degree
- Equivalent Experience: Associate degree or 2 years of law enforcement management experience.
Other Information
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
- Two (2) to four (4) years experience working in a medical center or similar setting with knowledge of healthcare practices, policies or procedures preferred.
- Five (5) years experience in a similar position at a Healthcare organization preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
- Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
- Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).
- Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
- Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
- Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
