Job Overview

This role acts as a supervisor and provider of care at the point of care to individuals and groups of patients within a unit. It involves evaluating nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating, and supervising care provided by licensed nurses, registered nurses, and patient care technicians. The supervisor serves as a resource for patient care assessment, planning, and evaluation of nursing interventions, and facilitates problem resolution through collaboration with unit leadership and other supervisory staff. They also identify staff strengths and weaknesses, and evaluate staff performance within their span of control.

Qualifications and Requirements
Education
  • Required: Registered nurse diploma
  • Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing
Experience
  • Required: 1 year of relevant experience as a registered nurse or 2 years as an LPN in an acute care setting
  • Preferred: 2 years of relevant experience as a registered nurse
Certifications
  • Required: Current RN license in the state of practice
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to assess and address patient medical needs
  • Self-direction
  • Proficiency in operational indicators, computer skills, and communication
