Job Description Production Supervisor - Weekend Shift

We are seeking a driven and experienced Production Supervisor - Weekend Shift to join our dynamic team in Pelzer, SC, supporting Vertiv's rapidly expanding production operations.

This is a critical leadership role within our manufacturing facility, focused on driving operational excellence, employee engagement, safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

This position supports weekend shift operations, scheduled from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm (Friday - Sunday).

Note that this role will require 36 hours worked onsite but will be paid for 40 hours weekly.

Position Summary

Lead and manage Weekend shift production operations to ensure finished products are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with production schedules, quality standards, work instructions, and customer requirements. Provide day-to-day leadership for production employees, coordinate staffing and workflow, reinforce standard work, resolve production barriers, and support communication between shifts and departments.

Responsibilities
  • Shift Leadership: Supervise weekend shift production employees, ensuring the team is aligned to daily safety, quality, delivery, and productivity expectations.
  • Line Management: Ensure proper staffing across production areas, adjusting workforce allocation based on schedules, priorities, attendance, material availability, and changing operational needs.
  • Quality Assurance: Reinforce adherence to work instructions, blueprints, quality checkpoints, standard operating procedures, and customer specifications to ensure finished goods meet required standards.
  • Team Communication: Lead daily shift Tier meetings to communicate production targets, safety expectations, quality concerns, schedule changes, and process updates to production employees.
  • Performance Management: Monitor team performance, provide timely coaching and feedback, address attendance or conduct concerns, and recognize positive performance and teamwork.
  • Resource Allocation: Direct workflow across assigned production areas, ensuring employees have the materials, tools, information, and equipment needed to perform work safely and efficiently.
  • Shift Handover: Conduct comprehensive shift-change briefings with incoming or outgoing supervisors to review staffing, production status, quality issues, material shortages, downtime, and priority work.
  • Problem Solving: Respond to production issues, remove barriers, elevate concerns as needed, and coordinate with support teams to minimize downtime and maintain schedule adherence.
  • Cost Control: Monitor labor hours and support efficient use of overtime through effective staffing plans, line balancing, and timely resolution of bottlenecks.
  • Shift Readiness: Verify that work areas, staffing assignments, tools, equipment, materials, and documentation are ready prior to shift startup.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with production management, engineering, quality, materials, maintenance, safety, and HR to execute operational priorities and resolve shift-level concerns.
  • Data Reporting: Maintain and accurately report shift metrics, including safety, quality, output, labor utilization, downtime, and schedule performance.
  • 5S & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment while enforcing company safety policies, PPE requirements, incident reporting expectations, and safe work practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve workflow, reduce waste, strengthen standard work, improve employee engagement, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Leadership Backup: Assume operational responsibility for assigned production areas during the absence of the Production Manager or other site leadership as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three or more years of leadership experience in a manufacturing, production, distribution, construction, industrial, or similar operations environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage daily production priorities, coach employees, and maintain accountability for safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
  • Strong understanding of general manufacturing safety practices, OSHA requirements, PPE expectations, incident reporting, and hazard recognition.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, production schedules, engineer drawings, standard operating procedures, and quality documentation.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to work weekend shift hours from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Fri-Sun and support overtime, or schedule changes as business needs require.
  • Basic proficiency with MS Office products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory experience in a high-mix, high-growth, or fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using production metrics, visual management, Tier meetings, or daily management systems to drive accountability and improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, root cause problem solving, standard work, or continuous improvement tools.
  • Experience partnering with quality, materials, maintenance, engineering, safety, and HR functions to resolve operational issues.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to build trust, set expectations, develop employees, and reinforce a positive shift culture.
Education and Certifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology or a related technical field is preferred but not required.
  • Supervisory, Lean manufacturing, OSHA, safety, or other operations-related certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Heavy Lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Frequent standing and walking across the production floor.
Environmental Demands
  • Working around moving machinery, test bays, and forklifts.
  • Protective Equipment Required (safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, etc.).
