Job summary

Glen-Gery Corporation, a leading brick manufacturer, has an opening at our Pittsburgh Plant in Cheswick, PA for an experienced Production Supervisor on a 3rd shift (10pm-6am). This hands-on role oversees Manufacturing and Packaging operations and requires knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment.

Key duties include implementing Safety, Quality, Productivity, Housekeeping and Preventive Maintenance, developing a strong team, coordinating with supervision, and ensuring on-time production

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in building products, with technical/production engineering skills.
• College or Technical degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Good leadership, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Supervision Team to foster a safety-conscious climate and culture, ensuring Safe operations and compliance with OSHA/MSHA/EPA requirements.
• Supervise a department team responsible for plant processes (raw material processing, manufacturing, quality, packaging, shipping/inventory, maintenance).
• Assist in new product development and advise distribution and sales on production capabilities and scheduling.
• Monitor and improve quality and productivity by measuring performance and reviewing production reports; take corrective actions as needed.
• Develop plans for preventive maintenance, capital projects, and plant improvements with management and engineering.
• Recruit and schedule hourly production employees and manage performance and employment-related issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with overseeing the operations of brick manufacturing. This is a hands‑on position requiring a working knowledge of electrical/mechanical equipment and production processes. Key duties include ensuring the implementation of Plant Daily Fundamentals: Safety, Quality, Productivity, Housekeeping and Preventive Maintenance as well as implementation of the Business Daily Fundamentals: developing people, building a strong team, satisfying customers, communicating, knowing and controlling costs, and growing the business.

• Coordinate with Supervision Team to develop a safety conscious climate and culture for all personnel by ensuring Safe operations, following all safety policies and procedures and encouraging good housekeeping. Maintain compliance with OSHA, MSHA, EPA and DEP and other relevant regulatory agencies. Conduct safety meetings such as tool box talks and any daily departmental meetings which are required for the continual operation of the department.
• Supervise a department team responsible for one or more of the plant processes including raw material processing, manufacturing, quality control, packaging, shipping/inventory and maintenance. Must be able to work under pressure due to emergency situations and unscheduled downtime.
• Participate in new product development and provide input to distribution and sales force regarding production capabilities and scheduling.
• Continually monitor and improve quality and productivity by measuring performance to standard and inspecting product daily. Review production performance reports with supervisory staff and identify variances from plant budget, instituting corrective action as required.
• Develop plans for plant preventive maintenance, capital expenditure projects and plant improvements in conjunction with plant management and corporate engineering. Ensure safe and effective implementation of these initiatives.
• Responsible for recruitment and scheduling of hourly production employees, performance management and handling of any employment related issues

Qualifications:

• College or Technical degree preferred or equivalent experience
• 5 - 8 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the building products industry, with a high level of technical/production engineering skills
• Good leadership skills including oral/written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills e.g. analytical and problem solving, with a desire to develop and work in a team environment
• Basic computer skills
• Training and/or experience in:quality assurance, drying and firing instrumentation, fuel consumption control, computerized equipment installation and troubleshooting equipment
• General knowledge of all maintenance fields: mechanical, electrical, burning, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, as well as electronic pumping, compressed air, and vacuum systems
