Job summary

SCHOTT AG is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design glass-melting equipment using SolidWorks, perform FEA, create 2D drawings and BOMs, and supervise a skilled workforce in a high-precision manufacturing setting. You will liaise with central services in Germany for platinum-related aspects, manage materials orders, and ensure quality through CoC considerations.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or equivalent with +7 years relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years SolidWorks design/modeling including FEA, 2D drawings, assemblies, BOMs, tolerancing
  • Minimum 3 years welding technology experience (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years refractory cutting, molding, and applications experience (preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of CNC programming and/or tool and die experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory leadership experience (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office
  • Basic knowledge of SAP and/or Oracle Software

Responsibilities

  • Design glass melting equipment in SolidWorks and analyze performance with flow and heat transfer modeling tools
  • Develop 2D drawings, BOM lists, and Job Instruction Documents
  • Organize shop storage areas and coordinate with SAP systems
  • Supervise union workforce including welders, masons, and CNC operators
  • Troubleshoot melting equipment fabrication and maintenance issues
  • Assist installations during start-up qualifications
  • Capable of performing First Article Inspections on melting equipment
  • Understand CoCs and their application to department equipment

Job description

  • Design glass melting equipment in SolidWorks. Analyze equipment performance through flow, heat transfer, and fatigue modeling software. Develop 2D drawings, BOM list, and Job Instruction Documents.
  • Business liaison to Germany “central services” as it pertains to platinum.
  • Business “custodian” for platinum (legal representative for government and financial auditors)
  • Order raw earth materials including but not limited to Platinum and Iridium.
  • Order refractory and insulation materials.
  • Order CNC tools and various mold making equipment.
  • Organize shop storage areas utilizing SAP.
  • Forecast platinum usage, consumption, and recycling plan.
  • Supervise union workforce. Work force includes welders, masons, and CNC machine operators.
  • Help troubleshoot melting issues as it pertains to melting equipment fabrication and maintenance.
  • Assist technicians during equipment installations through start-up qualifications.
  • Capable of performing FAI (First Article Inspections) on melting equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of CoC’s (Certificates of Conformance) and how they apply to the equipment in the department.
Your Profile
  • Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following technical areas: Mechanical Engineering; Material Sciences; Welding Engineering; If lessor degrees, equivalent combination of education and +7 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in Solid Works design and modeling to include: Knowledgeable of FEA analysis; 2D drawing and assembly creation; BOM creation; and knowledgeable of design tolerancing
  • Minimum of 3 years of welding technology experience (preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of refractory cutting, molding, and applications experience (preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of CNC programming and/or tool and tie experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory leadership experience (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office products
  • Basic knowledge of SAP and/or Oracle Software
