Job summary

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Analytical/problem solving ability to develop department procedures and goals.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with hospital personnel and vendors.
  • Supervisory skills to direct activities of staff.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee purchasing and inventory control functions.
  • Ensure DEA compliance for procurement of controlled substances.
  • Maintain effective communication within the department and with hospital staff.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with JCAHO, PA Department of Health, FDA, DEA, USP, OSHA.
  • Supervise pharmacy personnel to deliver high-quality services for centralized and decentralized operations.
  • Participate in recruitment and onboarding of staff; conduct performance appraisals; provide training.

ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Supervisor, Pharmacy Technicians at the McCandless location.

Shift Details
  • Mostly daylight and weekday hours
  • Occasional need for weekends and evenings
  • On-call rotating with other pharmacy leaders
  • Shifts will be discussed further in the interview
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the purchasing and inventory control function.
  • Determine drug quantity stock level and ensure adherence to all cost savings initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with DEA regulations concerning procurement and purchasing of controlled substances.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication mechanisms within the department to ensure information is communicated to and between all departmental and hospital staff.
  • Ensure department compliance with all regulatory requirements including JCAHO, Pennsylvania Department of Health, FDA, DEA, USP, and OSHA.
  • Maintain the department in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations with regard to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Assure high quality, accurate, expedient, and complete pharmacy services for centralized and decentralized operations through the supervision of pharmacy personnel.
  • Work to coordinate daily activities of the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
  • Assist the Director in recruitment of pharmacy staff.
  • Ensure that all of the staff are oriented to and prepared to perform all job performance standards.
  • Measure the performance of employees and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Identify personnel and performance problems and when appropriate counsels employees and initiates disciplinary and/or corrective action in conjunction with the Director.
  • Remain abreast of developments in the field through continuing education, professional literature, participation in professional organizations, and communication with peers in other organizations and on staff.
  • Remain abreast of developments in the changing environment of healthcare with regard to pharmaceutical services.
  • In conjunction with Pharmacy Leadership, provide or direct the provision of training and testing necessary to ensure competency of employees and skills maintenance, and maintains all pertinent documents as required.
  • Recognize employee potential and proficiency and facilitates personal and professional growth.
  • Participate in the development of policy and procedures for the department and provides the direct supervision necessary to ensure adherence to such.
  • Ensure patient safety through ensuring appropriate staffing so that pharmacy department continually provides optimum pharmaceutical care
  • Adjusts staffing schedule as necessary to account for employee sick time, leaves, vacations, etc., and/or periods of high patient census.
  • Prepare, implement, and monitor the capital and operating fiscal budgets.
  • Coordinate or perform all pharmacy scheduling activities to assure adequate coverage to provide quality and efficient pharmacy operational services.
  • Oversee the packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications for all patients according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Continuously evaluate policies and procedures and is alert to opportunities to improve the quality and extent of pharmacy services.
Qualifications
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, 2 of which should be in a leadership capacity.
  • Analytical/problem solving ability necessary to participate in the development of department procedures and goals.
  • Participate in the analyses of operational problem and proposals and direct inventory control.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel, communicate with vendors, and cooperate with the nursing and medical staffs.
  • Supervisory skills necessary to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the activities of both professional and non-professional employees.
  • Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner to manage multiple projects. Personal computer skills.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required
  • NY Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) OR PA Pharmacy Tech Registration
  • Act 34
