About Scripps Mercy Hospital

Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890, making it the oldest medical center in the county. Located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest, it comprises two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista.

The San Diego campus features the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery, and a childbirth unit including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit.

Position Details

This is a full-time (80 hours per pay period) salaried night shift position. The schedule includes at least one 12-hour charge nurse shift and other shifts between 8 and 10 hours. Location is in Hillcrest, San Diego.

Job Responsibilities

Join the Med/Surg Overflow 9th Floor as a Supervisor, Patient Care RN, ensuring nursing practices meet established standards and promote patient safety. Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing daily staffing plans under the general direction of the Patient Care Manager.
  2. Ensuring appropriate and timely use of bed placement technology and adherence to care processes for bed placement, patient transfer, transport, room cleaning, and discharge.
  3. Facilitating safe patient transitions through active participation in planning and coordination, including hand-offs to the next level of care.
Qualifications
  • Two years of applicable clinical experience, including one in a leadership role.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, team development, planning, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to exercise authority and responsibility for assigned services based on organizational scope and patient care complexity.
  • Graduate of an accredited program.
Certifications
  • Current California RN license.
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers and all competencies/certifications required of the charge RN on the unit.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and/or certification in a specialty area.
