Job Details

The Supervisor of Patient Access oversees the daily registration functions within Patient Access's scope of work. Ensures the operational unit is staffed appropriately. Promotes a positive patient experience for patients and families. Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills when interacting with staff, patients, families, and leadership. Supervises efficient and compliant registration processes, ensuring regulatory and compliance requirements are met, including adherence to departmental and institutional protocols. Prioritizes responsibilities to complete daily work requirements, resolves departmental and patient problems as needed, and monitors key performance metrics to ensure goals are achieved.

In addition, the Supervisor will do the following:

  1. Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  2. Maintain staffing schedules, including timely responses to requests for time off. Manage resources to ensure all vacancies are covered with minimal or no overtime, ensuring smooth and efficient department operations.
  3. Manage on-site operations including MyTime payroll & attendance, downtime support, and deposit reconciliation. Adhere to established project deadlines and budgetary limitations.
  4. Respond to all patient complaints or stakeholder concerns. Continuously seek ways to improve registration processes.
  5. Participate in interviewing and hiring new employees. Contribute to the education and training of new hires. Monitor new employee onboarding to ensure they are fully trained and competent in their roles and responsibilities.
  6. Provide constructive communication to service delivery areas as needed. Escalate issues to Patient Access Leadership in a timely manner.
  7. Appraise staff performance, address complaints, resolve issues, and act as a mentor for staff. Manage and track staff's time and attendance for compliance.
  8. Demonstrate a professional demeanor with patients, families, coworkers, and leadership by fostering a positive attitude in the department.
  9. Ensure regulatory and compliance requirements are met; comply with departmental and institutional protocols.
  10. Achieve individual and team performance metrics. Complete staff quality assurance reviews.
  11. Complete staff's annual performance evaluations, providing feedback on performance and achievement of goals to the Regional Manager.

Job Description

Education:

An Associate's degree in healthcare or business administration is required, or alternatively, a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a physician office/practice, hospital setting, healthcare insurance provider, or other healthcare-related experience. A Bachelor's Degree and HFMA Certifications are preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of patient registration experience required.

Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a physician office/practice, hospital setting, healthcare insurance provider, or other healthcare relevant experience required.

Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with healthcare EHR applications such as EPIC and Cerner.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills for complex situations.

Knowledge of patient registration processes, third-party insurance coverage, including managed care plans, benefits, authorizations/referrals, and coverage requirements.

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.

Strong quality assurance and critical thinking skills are necessary for this role.
