Job summary

Responsibilities
  • 1. Provides guidance to; and directs activities of dispatch and field staff.
  • 2. Assists with management of EMS shift scheduling, including fielding book-offs and filling shifts.
  • 3. Makes certain that all bases have adequate equipment and supplies are present and in good working order to facilitate efficient morning ambulance deployments. Reports any discrepancies.
  • 4. Identify and take necessary and prompt action to prevent unsafe acts.
  • 5. Recognizes and reports any excellence in job performance of subordinates.
  • 6. Recommend corrective action to Director of Operations for policy violations and unsafe acts according to corporate guidelines.
  • 7. Accountability to ensure all ePCRs are completed by EMS Crews prior to the end of each shift.
  • 8. Responsible to evaluate any Specialty Care Transport (SCT) trips to ensure protocol compliance and proper resource utilization.
  • 9. Recommends changes in procedures as applicable to improve daily operations.
  • 10. Responds as a Paramedic Supervisor to the following requests:
    • 10.13 or more ambulances to a scene (North Haven or Milford)
  • 11. Makes immediate escalation notifications to Director of Operations and VPO with any newsworthy or incidents outside of normal operations.
  • 12. Documents and emails shift report for Director of Operations and VPO on a nightly basis.
  • 13. Safely/respectfully operates Company vehicles and equipment at all times and ensures that subordinates do as well.
  • 14. Assists with Customer Service concerns. Assists with any employee concerns. Forwards as appropriate.
  • 15. Addresses or reports any building maintenance issues or IT concerns. Escalates notification when necessary.
  • 16. Monitors all crew report submissions on EMS Manager and addresses concerns. Forwards any unaddressed concerns to the appropriate responsible party for reconciliation.
  • 17. Ability to effectively and positively represent the Company and the message of management.
  • 18. Acts as team leader at all times and represents the Company in a professional manner and portrays a positive image of the Company.
  • 19. Attends 90% of all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • 20. Oversees dispatchers to ensure "On Time Performance" and resource utilization is optimized. Assists with call intake when necessary.
  • 21. Completes documentation accurately and timely to ensure appropriate information is available both clinically and administratively.
  • 22. Covers open dispatch shifts and intermittent coverage as required.
  • 23. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • 24. Participates in quality assurance activities and as an experienced EMT-P, may assist in the orientation and development of new employees.
Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Experience

Two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience desired. Previous supervisory or management experience is desirable.

Licensure

Must maintain Connecticut EMT-Paramedic License, current CPR Card, valid Driver's License, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification, State Telecommunicator (within one year) and driving record in compliance with Company policy regarding insurability. Maintains New Haven and Milford Medical Control at the SCT Level. Holds and maintains motor vehicle operator license in state of legal residence. Specialty Care Transportation (SCT) experience is preferred.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively represent the Company when communicating in English with clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Adaptable to perform under stress when confronted with a critical situation should a patient emergency occur.
