This is a responsible position where work involves supervising employees in street cleaning and refuse collection tasks in an assigned district. Work performed by employees is a service to the general public, therefore, incumbents tour and inspect the district near end of day’s work to make certain all work has been completed. Immediate supervision is received from either the Superintendent of Street Sanitation. Supervision is exercised over all employees assigned to district or territory.
Supervises and assigns employees to various street cleaning tasks, including but not limited to street flushing, street sweeping, debris removal, snow and ice removal and disposal, spreading of salt, sand and gravel, cutting of grass and weeds;
Supervises and assigns employees in the collection of refuse;
Maintains various records and reports concerning repairs and work completed;
Maintains time records;
Maintains necessary safety precautions;
Issues summons to violators of trash and refuse ordinances;
Performs related duties as required.

A.) Applicants must have continuous and permanent status in the competitive class for one year as a Dispatcher, Equipment Operator, Heavy Equipment Operator, Truck Driver (Streets) or Tractor Trailer Operatorin the Department of Public Works, Parks and Streets

ORSpecial Requirement
Applicants must possess a current NYS Driver’s License that must be presented at time of appointment and maintained during employment.
Good knowledge of the practices, procedures and equipment used in refuse collection and disposal, snow and ice removal and disposal of same, street cleaning, sweeping and flushing;
Ability to assign and supervise the work of others;
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
Ability to maintain records and reports;
Tact in handling citizens’ complaints relative to street cleaning and refuse collections;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
