Shift: Shift 2
Serves as a department expert responsible for ensuring standards are met for sterilization processes, record keeping, and staff competencies during the assigned shift. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and clinical standards regarding sterilization of equipment and supplies. Oversees adherence to policies and procedures in the sterile processing department, including decontamination, packaging, sterilization, and return of supplies and instruments to support quality patient care throughout FMLH. Manages personnel on the shift. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of 2 years experience in a hospital-based Sterile Processing Department. Leadership experience in healthcare involving instrument reprocessing, or as a lead/charge tech, educator, or trainer in Sterile Processing.
High School diploma or equivalent required. An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field or Central Service/Sterile Processing Tech internship/training is preferred.
Knowledge of Infection Control, JCAHO Standards, asepsis, surgical techniques, instrumentation, and patient care equipment. Effective communication skills for leadership. Technical expertise in sterilization and operating equipment. Competent computer skills.
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from IAHCSMM or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from CBSPD required within 18 months of employment. Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL) preferred within 18 months.
