Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan seeks a capable supervisor to manage a mining operation in Morenci, AZ. You will oversee daily production, assign staff, and ensure safe, efficient results in a complex open-pit system.

The role requires supervisory experience, budgeting skills, and strong communication. On-site work includes a comprehensive benefits package and housing support options.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with five years of operational supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical mining discipline with at least one internship.
• Additional certifications or licensure may be required.
• Knowledge of supervisory methods and budgeting.
• Ability to develop safety awareness and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, coordinates and controls safe operation of the assigned work unit.
• Directs staff work, implements production plans, and reviews performance.
• Assists in staffing estimates and material/equipment planning.
• Maintains inventory, approves purchases and reports usage.
• Trains staff in safety procedures and conducts evaluations.
• Performs other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do

• Under general supervision, supervises, coordinates and controls the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit.
• Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff for assigned work unit.
• Implement production plans according to approved schedule.
• May participate in the full range of daily operational duties, performing the most difficult.
• Inspects and evaluates work in progress, identifies any problem areas, and may direct remedial action.
• Conducts performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
• Prepares estimates of the staffing, materials, and equipment requirements for projected work activities.
• Maintains an inventory of parts and materials. Approves purchases of materials and equipment; maintains time, materials and equipment use reports. Requisitions tools, supplies, materials and equipment.
• Trains staff in safety procedures. Maintains safety data sheets for crews.
• Performs other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• High School diploma or GED,andfive years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience,OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical mining related discipline with at least one summer internship experience (or equivalent) working in mining or industrial environment, including supervisory or lead experience.
• Additional certifications or licensure appropriate to the job may be required
• Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques
• Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects
• Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $93,000 - $127,500. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
