This role is responsible for the operational, technical, and personnel management of an assigned laboratory section. The position ensures smooth day‑to‑day workflow, resolves operational issues, and escalates concerns to the Lab Manager or Physician Supervisor when appropriate. The role maintains a patient‑ and client‑focused environment that meets all accrediting and regulatory standards. It oversees the training, competency, and performance of section staff and performs technical duties as needed. The position promotes and enforces all company and laboratory policies, ensuring consistent compliance and high‑quality service. It requires strict confidentiality regarding patient and personnel information and demands a high level of professional excellence, including sound independent judgment, reliability, initiative, flexibility, and strong ethical standards.

Education
  • Required – Associate's degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science
  • Preferred- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, or biological science. Copy of Transcript.
Work Experience
  • Required - 4 years training and experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty under a qualified Medical Director. Experience working in controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc.
Certifications
  • Required - Current license in the state of practice (if applicable).
  • Required - ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist generalist, Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist generalist. Any incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004 must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Judgmental skills in order to identify and solve problems as well as handle difficult situations
  • Analytical skills necessary to prepare/interpret a variety of management reports, analyze complex data and trouble shoot equipment
  • Analytical skills to collect data, perform calculations, maintain system logs and operate laboratory computer equipment
  • Skills to manage stress in order to maintain a professional atmosphere and provide quality service
  • Preferred- Advanced analytical skills necessary in order to analyze complex data and trouble shoot equipment

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. Mechanical lifting devices (e.g., carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized. Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. more than 8 hours a day, weekend). Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure for communicable diseases

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
