Job summary

Brownsville Independent School District is seeking a Supervisor of Maintenance to oversee district facilities, buildings, and grounds in Brownsville, TX. The role focuses on ensuring safe, functional environments that support instructional goals and student success.

The position requires an associate degree or 5+ years of supervisory experience in relevant trades, plus a Texas driver’s license and forklift certification.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree OR a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in supervisory role in the areas of HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Building Trades, Grounds, Automotive or Warehouse required.
  • A valid Texas Driver's License and an acceptable driving record, forklift certification required and may be obtained on the job.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in ensuring that Maintenance operations are supportive of the instructional goals and objectives of the district and attainment of the campus performance objectives.
  • Assists in providing a smoothly functioning physical learning environment for the students and employees of the district, maintaining a safe, clean and attractive area at each work station/campus with minimal interruption in the routine workings of the district.
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with emergency repairs efficiently.
  • Assists with inspections required for assurance of high-quality workmanship, cleanliness, safety and security at all district property as needed.
  • Assists in coordinating and supervising the maintenance of all district buildings and grounds, monitoring the repairs required to assure the proper condition of all such property.
  • Assists in planning and directing school plant renovations by department personnel.
  • Assists in the preventive maintenance program, advising, scheduling and procedural processes for ongoing custodial care for all facilities and grounds.
  • Supervises maintenance inventory and record system, maintaining personnel, insurance, and other records, as required.
  • Assists in solving personnel problems, needs and selection of personnel.
  • Assists the Coordinator for Maintenance with preparing reports and helping with records, including the annual budget for the department, property accounting and inventory of department equipment.
  • Assists the Coordinator for Maintenance in supervising the operation of building equipment, maintenance vehicles and all other property used the department.
  • Demonstrates support for the district student management system student behavior related to operational aspects of the district.
  • Assists in serving as a liaison between the Facilities and Maintenance activities and public utilities, city, and county entities.
  • Attends Department meetings and participates effectively as requested.
  • Prepares various types of reports applicable to position.
  • Exhibits skill in planning, organizing, and directing various activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of current practices and trends relative to school business management by reading current literature, attending meetings, and seminars.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate both in oral and written manner.
  • Demonstrates cooperativeness and flexibility in working with various components of the school and community.
  • Exhibits punctuality and dependability in attending meetings, and reading communication documents.
  • Displays initiative.
  • Accepts and performs additional school related assignments in a positive and efficient manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior as is expected of all District employees.
  • Maintains professional growth by attending in-service and meetings as requested/required.
  • Position may require overtime and will respond to service calls in a timely manner while serving on-call duty as necessary to maintain function of District facilities.
  • Must perform daily vehicle inspections and maintenance preventions before and after trips.
  • Performs any other maintenance trades duties as assigned by Supervisor/Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Warehouse; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
