Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests, and patients. Counsels, coaches, and evaluates subordinate personnel. Assists teams with de-escalating tense, uncertain, and emotional situations and proactively works to prevent crime and safety incidents. Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients, and guests. Serves as shift commander and supervises sergeants, police officers, and Public Safety Officers. Issues work assignments and supervises work activities of all assigned personnel. Completes and approves work schedules to ensure proper shift coverage. Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties owned, leased, or occupied by IU Health. Responds to calls for service and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed. Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations, policies, and state statutes. Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required. Performs physical security screening as required. Assists other public safety agencies as needed. Responds to officers’ calls for assistance and assumes on-scene command of critical incidents. Controls and assesses situations, identifies appropriate actions to preserve crime scenes, compiles critical information, and coordinates activities with other jurisdictions. Acts in the capacity of senior departmental officer in the absence of more senior ranking officers. Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.
