Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Supervisor-Lieutenant-Police Officer for its Public Safety department at North Hospital. The role provides direction to a team of sergeants, police officers and Public Safety Officers, conducts rounds and responds to calls for service.

You will serve as shift commander, manage schedules, coordinate with other agencies, enforce IU Health policies and state statutes, and help maintain a safe healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED and seven years of law enforcement experience, OR Associate's degree and five years of law enforcement experience.
  • Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
  • Requires completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Tier I or II training, and IU Health DPS field training.
  • Must obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
  • Must not have felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor convictions.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
  • Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
  • Has never had law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.
  • Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.

Schedule:

Full-Time Day Shift - 8:00 - 4:00pm Monday - Friday (possibility of on-call at the needs of department)

Primary Responsibilities:

Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests, and patients. Counsels, coaches and evaluates subordinate personnel. Assists teams with de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations and proactively works to prevent crime and safety incidents. Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients, and guests. Serves as shift commander and supervises sergeants, police officers and Public Safety Officers. Issues work assignments and supervises work activities of all assigned personnel. Complete and approve work schedules to ensure proper shift coverage. Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties that are owned, leased, or occupied by IU Health. Responds to calls for service and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed. Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations, policies and state statutes. Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required. Performs physical security screening as required. Assists other public safety agencies as needed. Responds to officers’ calls for assistance and assumes onscene command of critical incidents. Control and assess situations, identify appropriate actions to preserve crime scenes, compile critical information and coordinate activities with other jurisdictions. Acts in capacity of senior departmental officer in absence of more senior ranking officer. Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.


Candidate Qualifications:


  • Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent and seven (7) years of law enforcement experience. OR Associate's degree and five (5) years of law enforcement experience.
