Position Overview

This position supervises the operation of laboratory services in assigned areas by supervising personnel and overseeing day-to-day workflow.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Licensure

• For West Virginia Labs:
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field.
• WV Licensure as a Laboratory Technologist within 90 days of hire.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP or AMT.
• OR
• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
• WV Licensure as a Laboratory Technician within 90 days of hire.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP or AMT.
• OR
• Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology and certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL); licensed in WV if performing specimen grossing.
• OR
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cytotechnology, certification as a Cytotechnologist, and WV licensure.

Experience

• Four (4) years as a Medical Technologist or Laboratory Technician, depending on educational background.
• OR
• Four (4) years as a Histotechnologist or three (3) years as a Cytotechnologist, depending on degree.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in supervising lab areas, ensure staffing, participate in staff orientation and evaluations, coordinate specimen processing, operate laboratory equipment, develop and revise procedures, maintain policies, respond to customer inquiries, organize resources, participate in meetings, review quality control, and may instruct residents and students.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods.
• Lift or pull up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

• Maintain safety and infection control standards.
• Work in a loud environment and tolerate specimen odors.
