This position supervises the operation of laboratory services in assigned areas by supervising personnel and overseeing day-to-day workflow.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

For West Virginia Labs:
1. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field.
2. WV Licensure as a Laboratory Technologist within 90 days of hire.
3. Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) years experience as a Medical Technologist.
OR
1. Associate's degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or related field.
2. WV Licensure as a Laboratory Technician within 90 days of hire.
3. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

OR
1. Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology.
2. Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent agency as a Histotechnologist (HTL).
3. Licensed in the State of WV as a Laboratory Technician within 90 days of employment if performing specimen grossing.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) years experience as a Histotechnologist.
OR
1. Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited cytotechnologist program.
2. Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent certifying agency as a Cytotechnologist.
3. Licensed by the state of West Virginia within 30 days of employment.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Three (3) years experience as a Cytotechnologist.

For Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland Labs:
1. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field.
2. Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) years experience as a Medical Technologist.
OR
1. Associate of Science degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or related field.
2. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
EXPERIENCE:
1. Four (4) years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

OR
1. Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology.
2. Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent agency as a Histotechnologist (HTL).
EXPERIENCE:

OR
1. Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.   1. Assist the Managers in the supervision of all lab areas to assure appropriate personnel coverage.
  2. Participates in the orientation of new staff and provides input for staff’s annual performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  3. Coordinates and ensures all Reference Laboratory specimens are sent to appropriate reference laboratory.
  4. In conjunction with LIS personnel coordinates all computer downtime activities.
  5. Operates and supervises the operation of laboratory equipment.
  6. Solicits and provides input for the development and/or revision of standard operating procedures.
  7. Maintains working knowledge of current hospital and lab administrative and safety policies.
  8. Responds to customer inquiries and performs duties related to customer service.
  9. Requests input and direction from the Medical Director(s) regarding medical and technical issues.
  10. Organizes time, materials, and resources in an economical manner.
  11. Participates in various activities to disseminate information to laboratory staff.
  12. Maintains laboratory communication and ensures that new policies are available to staff.
  13. Reviews quality control records and test results.
  14. Assures daily completeness of all workload within established turnaround times.
  15. Initiates effective communication with supervisory personnel and laboratory personnel.
  16. May participate in the technical and theoretical instruction of residents and students.

  1. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  2. Must be able to lift or pull up to 25 pounds.

  2. Knowledge in both medical technology and management principles.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
