Job summary

Vitalant seeks a Laboratory Services Supervisor to oversee daily technical operations, including blood product testing, labeling, and QC processes. You will supervise staff, ensure compliance, and drive quality initiatives in a meaningful, mission-driven nonprofit environment.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a medical laboratory science field, MT certification or equivalent, and at least one year of laboratory experience; supervisory experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, medical technology or medical laboratory science required.
• Certification as Medical Technologist or CLIA equivalent for moderate/high complexity testing required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, and assess performance of intake, testing, and labeling of blood products.
• Oversee equipment maintenance program and vendor scheduling.
• Manage Product Quality Control program including QC records and corrective actions.
• Investigate deviations in testing and quality control.
• Provide leadership to achieve service and product quality and financial goals.

Perform blood component processing and labeling and routine testing of biological samples.

As a Laboratory Supervisor, you’ll get to

• Supervise, train, and assess the performance of the intake of blood products, product testing, and product labeling.
• Oversee department equipment maintenance program, including preventative maintenance records and vendor scheduling.
• Manage the Product Quality Control program, including completion of product QC record, assessments, reporting, failure investigations and corrective action.
• Investigate deviations in testing, quality control and preventative maintenance.
• Assist in reporting and resolving deviations.
• Conduct required competency observations and complete documentation.
• Provide effective leadership to achieve high levels of service and product quality, financial results to meet company goals.
• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology or medical laboratory science required.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist by a recognized certifying agency required or CLIA equivalent for moderate or high complexity testing required.
• Certification as a Technologist in blood banking (BB) or Specialist in blood banking (SBB) preferred.
• One year of laboratory experience required.
• Two years of supervisory experience preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, medical technology or medical laboratory science required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Certification as a Medical Technologist by a recognized certifying agency required or CLIA equivalent for moderate or high complexity testing required.

State licensure (as required by regulations).

Certification as a technologist in blood banking (BB) or specialist in blood banking (SBB) preferred.

EXPERIENCE

One year of laboratory experience required.

Two years of supervisory experience preferred.

If acting in any capacity that is regulated by a State mandating additional requirements (i.e. NYS, PA), State qualifications are required.
