Job description

Position Summary

The Laboratory Section Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and participating in all aspects of daily operations in an assigned section.

Responsibilities
  1. Provides daily supervision of personnel and reporting of tests.
  2. Monitors workflow, evaluates compliance with service guarantees and quality control requirements.
  3. Works cooperatively with all customers and responds effectively to meet or exceed customer needs.
  4. Monitors customer service satisfaction and addresses issues in a timely manner.
  5. Orients and trains team members in the department.
  6. Completes performance competency evaluations and coaching plans.
  7. Recognizes and provides positive feedback and rewards for performance; addresses disciplinary actions for all team members of an assigned section.
  8. Schedules staff to meet workload requirements while minimizing expenses.
  9. Assumes bench responsibilities as needed and regularly performs testing to maintain proficiency.
  10. Performs and reports routine and special laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure high-quality results within established timeframes.
  11. Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
  12. Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
  13. Monitors test analysis to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance and takes corrective actions as required.
  14. Evaluates team competency, monitors test results, worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing, and maintenance logs.
  15. Responsible for evaluating new test methodologies and instrumentation, and makes recommendations to the laboratory manager.
  16. Implements new test methods and procedures under the direction of the laboratory manager and medical director.
  17. Supports the manager in maintaining the operational budget within budgetary constraints.
  18. Orders operating supplies, monitors inventory control, productivity, and testing utilization.
  19. Develops and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures for test performance, quality control, and preventive maintenance, including troubleshooting procedures according to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  20. Monitors workflow and delegates responsibilities to section team members.
  21. Communicates regularly with the manager on day-to-day operations.
  22. Manages human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching, and performance counseling.
  23. Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  24. Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training

Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technology or appropriate training facility. Bachelor’s degree in a related science field. Completion of an approved clinical laboratory training internship.

Licensure/Certification

Maintains current supervisor license and medical technologist license required for area of responsibility - Florida Department of Health.

Experience

Five (5) years of laboratory experience.
