Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate degree and two years of related field experience or two years of supervisory experience.
  • Five years of ICD-10 coding experience with MS-DRG assignments and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Proficiency with database, spreadsheet, and related software programs.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-level multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the inpatient coding team across facilities.
  • Oversee daily inpatient coding operations and maintain DNFB and reimbursement integrity.
  • Stay current with ICD-10 regulations and MS-DRG assignments; translate to guidance.

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

As the Inpatient Coding Supervisor, you'll lead a dynamic team responsible for driving accurate, compliant inpatient coding across our integrated healthcare delivery system. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll champion coding excellence, optimize reimbursement outcomes, and shape the future of our data quality initiatives. You'll combine deep expertise in coding regulations, HIPAA compliance, and case mix index analysis with your ability to inspire and develop a talented coding team while maintaining exceptional DNFB performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor the inpatient coding team, fostering a culture of accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across all facilities
  • Oversee daily inpatient coding operations, ensuring complete and accurate coding while maintaining optimal DNFB levels and reimbursement integrity
  • Champion coding compliance by staying current with ICD-10 regulations, MS-DRG assignments, and reimbursement methodologies, translating complex requirements into actionable team guidance
  • Build and strengthen collaborative partnerships with data quality coordinators, documentation specialists, audit teams, quality departments, and medical staff to drive organizational alignment
  • Analyze coding trends and performance metrics, identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing data-driven solutions that enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Conduct audits and quality reviews, providing constructive feedback that elevates team performance and ensures regulatory compliance
  • Manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary healthcare environment while meeting aggressive timelines and project deadlines
Qualifications
  • Associate degree and two (2) years' experience in related field or in lieu of degree two (2) years of management or supervisor experience in a position that demonstrates leadership ability, initiative, and assertiveness.
  • Five (5) years of working experience with ICD10 Coding, MSDRG assignment and reimbursement methodology.
  • Proficiency with database, spreadsheet, and related software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a high-level multidisciplinary environment.
  • Communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with staff.
  • Analytical ability necessary to conduct basic research analyzes and interprets data, evaluate processes, and propose improvements.
  • Ability to supervisor, coordinates, and leads simultaneously.
  • Ability to estimate time frames and meet projected deadlines. Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership to departmental personnel and to develop and maintain a wide variety of internal and external cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently. Goal oriented, interpersonal skills, change management and political skill.
