Job summary

Metalico Pittsburgh is seeking a Supervisor in Training to learn our business from the ground up and prepare to supervise day-to-day operations at the location. The role involves planning, communicating vision, driving profitable operations, and building teamwork with the Yard Manager.

The ideal candidate will possess a High School Diploma, the willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to operate and train on heavy equipment. Overtime and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• 2-year minimum operational management training experience preferred.
• Heavy equipment skills a plus (forklift, skid steer, loaders, material handlers).
• Must be able to lift minimum of 30 lbs.
• Must be able to work full week & Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Support operations management for all ferrous and non-ferrous units with a safe, organized facility.
• Recommend ways to maximize profits, meet quality standards, set production goals, and build teamwork.
• Report to the Yard Manager.
• Evaluate safety/environmental needs and make recommendations to the Yard Manager.
• Review and recommend quality of finished products to the Yard Manager.
• Ensure customer specifications are met and seek margin expansion opportunities.
• Assist Yard Manager with employee training on equipment operation and maintenance.
• Understand processing operations and costs to optimize material flow.

Summary:

The purpose of the Supervisor in Training position is to learn our business from the ground up. We will train the right person, no scrap metal experience necessary, however the ideal candidate must possess the following work qualifications highlighted below. The purpose of this position is to supervise, manage, guide and influence day-to-day operational activities for the Metalico Pittsburgh location. This position will be responsible for planning and communicating their business vision, growth and diversification to their team and drive the execution of an effective operations program. In addition, recommend ways to maximize profits, meet quality standards, set production goals and build teamwork.

Essential Job Functions:

Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Support operations managementfor all ferrous the non-ferrous units with the objective of maintaining a safe, organized, and tidy facility.
• Recommend ways to maximize profits, meet quality standards, set production goals, and build teamwork.
• This position will report to the Yard Manager.
• Evaluate the safety/environmental needs and make recommendations to the Yard Manager.
• Review and make recommendations to the Yard Manager for the quality produced of our finished products.
• Ensure that all customer specifications and make recommendations to the Yard Manager on ways to expand margins.
• Assist Yard Manager with employee training regarding operating and maintaining equipment.
• Become familiar with all processing operations and costs. Become knowledgeable enough to determine how material is to be processed through Metalico’s operating facilities and make recommendations to the Yard Manager as needed.
• Review/develop Standard Operating Procedures for the operations and make recommendations to the Yard Manager as needed.
• Conduct himself/herself with professionalism and be responsive to all internal and external customers.
• Handle all disputes in a timely and effective manner. Effectiveness is defined as protection of both Metalico and the interests of the disputed party.
• Manage the employees’ day-to-day duties. Set up daily assignments for all yard/plant staff.
• Effective use of all company assets.
• Ensure that all customers’ needs are met on a continuing basis.
• Follow and perform duties in accordance with the Metalico Code of Business Conduct.
• Attend relevant training/information sessions with the intent of becoming more knowledgeable.
• Responsible for planning and requesting capital needs.
• Efficient use of available space for inventory management.
• Responsible for identifying and developing future leaders of our organization.
• Follow all Metalico procedures regarding his/her activities.
• This position is to perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

• Frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
• Specific vision includes close vision and ability to adjust focus.
• Standing, sitting, walking, squatting, bending, lifting, reaching, and grasping.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
• Lifts up to 50 pounds from the floor to waist level and able to carry such objects for at least 30 feet.
• Physically able to participate in sessions, presentations, and meetings.

Work Environment:

• Outside work in the Yard is where temperature and weather extremes may be encountered.
• Work can sometimes take place in an industrial environment, with noise, dust and fumes.
• Noise level in the work environment can be moderate at times.

Work Hours:

Monday through Friday, 40+ hour work week; overtime may be required after hours and on weekends.
