Job Description And Duties

NEW TO STATE CANDIDATES WILL BE HIRED INTO THE MINIMUM SALARY OF THE CLASSIFICATION. THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR HYBRID TELEWORK AND IS REQUIRED TO REPORT TO THE HEADQUARTERS OFFICE FOUR DAYS PER WEEK.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing leadership, coordination, and supervision within the Disease Intervention Section’s Operations and Program Support Unit (OPSU).

The Supervisor I oversees operational functions that strengthen statewide disease intervention capacity, including training coordination, partner services support, outbreak response administration, grant-related activities, and testing program operations. The incumbent provides direct supervision, guidance, workload management, and professional development to the OPSU, ensuring high-quality work performance and alignment with CDPH objectives.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Public Health Medical Officer III Supervisor, Chief of the Disease Intervention Section (DIS).

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027.
