Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the system mission statement. This position supervises the activities of workers engaged in fabricating, installing, and repairing air conditioning systems by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Inspects and measures building to determine airflow requirements.
  • Plans and draws layouts and dimensions of ductwork.
  • Obtains price quotations on materials and purchase materials such as sheet metal, compressors, and fans; from suppliers and test equipment to verify that equipment is functioning.
  • Schedules air conditioning installation assignments.
  • Examines installed air conditioning systems to verify that system is functioning.
  • Compiles labor and material cost figures and supporting media for billing purposes.
  • Attends classes and seminars on air conditioning components and system design to update skills.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Plans fiscal year HVAC Department budget.
  • Communicates company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigned duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Installs and maintains the energy management system.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the system's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Approves/denies vacation leave requests. Is on call 24 hours a day.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5 years related experience and/or training with HCBOE; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Journeyman 5 years experience in trade.Proper License preferred.
  • Certificates or License Required: Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
