Job summary

The City of New York seeks a Supervisor Electrician to oversee electricians and helpers performing installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems for buildings and traffic control. The role includes planning work, supervising field crews, issuing job orders, and coordinating with staff, contractors, inspectors and vendors.

Candidates must have six years of related experience (or four years plus approved training) with supervisory work in the last fifteen years.

Qualifications

• Six years of full-time electrician experience with at least one year in a supervisory role in the last fifteen years.
• Alternate path: four years of experience plus approved trade/technical training ensuring equivalent supervision experience, with at least one year supervising electricians in the last fifteen years.
• Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver license valid in New York State; license must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Supervise electricians and helpers in installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems for buildings, bridges, and traffic control.
• Prepare work schedules, assign tasks, and inspect progress and quality of work in the field.
• Prepare job orders, tool/material requisitions, and maintain department shop operations.
• Consult with staff, contractors, inspectors, and manufacturers for department projects.
• Maintain records and generate reports on maintenance and repair activities.
• Access work sites using a vehicle and comply with licensing requirements as needed.

Job description

In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Supervisor Electrician, or must be reachable on DOT's promotional list for Supervisor Electrician, Exam # 4558. Under general supervision, Supervisor Electricians supervise electricians and other assigned personnel in the installation, repair, replacement and maintenance of apparatus, equipment and electric wiring circuits for buildings, bridges, and elevated structures and/or traffic control systems according to the provisions of the Administrative Code and electrical practice in the City of New York. Supervisor Electricians prepare and are responsible for the work of electricians, electrician’s helpers, and other assigned personnel in altering, repairing, and maintaining appliances, equipment and wiring circuits in electrical installations for light, heat and power in or on buildings and/or traffic control systems; make decisions relative to work procedures; prepare work schedules and make work assignments; make field inspections in connection with electrical installations and components of systems relative to work progress or need for alterations, maintenance, and repairs; prepare job orders and tool and material requisitions; supervise the complete operation of the department shop; consult with staff personnel, contractors, inspectors, and manufacturers’ representatives in connection with department work; keep records and make reports. Ability to operate a motor vehicle or related transport equipment to access work sites in the performance of assigned duties is a plus. All Supervisor Electricians perform related work.

Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of the appointment in this position

SUPERVISOR ELECTRICIAN - 91769

Minimum Qualifications

1. Six years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician acquired within the last fifteen years, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or

2. At least four years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient satisfactory experience as an electrician's helper or apprentice electrician or training in the electrical field acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of such helper experience, apprentice training or training in the electrical field. However, all candidates must have had at least one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a supervising electrician acquired within the last fifteen years.

License Requirements

A Motor Vehicle Driver license valid in the State of New York.

All licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.
