Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Field Supervisor in California to lead teams responsible for maintaining and constructing parts of the service territory distribution grid.

Responsibilities include ensuring safe, compliant service delivery, leading meetings, training, and field site visits up to half the time. You will manage performance, communicate with customers, and drive on-time, within-budget projects with high quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed high school or GED.
  • California driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
  • Experience in engineering, construction, field maintenance operations, or related electric utility work.

  • Provide safe and reliable electric service while ensuring CPUC, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Implement safety practices and manage employee accountability.
  • Facilitate or lead weekly team meetings and safety tailboards.
  • Conduct training as needed.
  • Visit work sites at least 50% of the time to monitor progress and performance.
  • Ensure customer needs and expectations are met.
  • Communicate proactively with customers in field situations.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality expectations.
  • Complete and maintain work documentation and reporting.
  • Make complex field decisions considering cost, risk, safety, quality, and customer impact.
  • Monitor crew productivity and utilize resources effectively.
  • Build constructive peer relationships and provide feedback.
  • Respond to emergencies and outages.
  • Serve as a field leader during major emergency activations when assigned.
  • Supervise staff through recruitment, selection, training, development, and performance management.

Job description

Requirements
  • High-school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in engineering, manufacturing, construction, field maintenance operations, or related electric utility experience
  • Must obtain a California Driver’s License by the first day of employment
  • Ability to travel 10%-50% with occasional overnight stays
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including on-call duties and emergency response
  • Ability to work outdoors in remote areas, steep or uneven terrain, and inclement weather
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or another related field (desired)
  • Previous electric utility industry experience (desired)
  • Journeyman lineman experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of CPUC General Orders 95, 128, and 165
  • Project management skills; T-300 Supervisors must oversee larger construction projects
  • General computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Customer service orientation, communication, initiative, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of bargaining unit contracts
  • Ability to uphold safety standards and participate in continuous process improvement
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or supervising bargaining unit personnel
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience using business metrics to motivate and influence performance
  • Leadership skills, including developing and conducting presentations to employees and management
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
