Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supervises NPC, DG, substation, and electrical certification processes from evaluation to connection.
• Manages DG projects over 25 kVA, disconnections/reconnections of private substations, and certs for new customers.
• Assigns tasks, sets priorities, and monitors timely execution; supports staff development.
• Coaches engineers, manages performance, and plans succession.
• Ensures technical consistency and quality by guiding engineering practices and resolving issues.
• Drives process improvements and optimizes resources across the group; analyzes metrics for trends.
• Tracks team expenses and payroll; ensures budget adherence and cost control.
• Ensures compliance with standards and legal requirements to minimize risk.
• Participates in critical restoration tasks during storms or emergencies to maintain service.

Job Summary:

Leads and supervises engineering teams by managing NPC, DG, substation, and electrical certification processes; conducting evaluations, inspections, technical reviews, and cross functional coordination to ensure regulatory compliance, operational continuity, and adherence to organizational standards. Drives process improvements, resource optimization, performance management, and departmental development while supporting day to day operations, monitoring metrics, and guiding staff through training, coaching, and strategic initiatives to achieve operational excellence and service reliability.

Job Description:

• Supervises a team of engineers responsible for all stages of the New Projects Connections (NPC) process -including Evaluation, Endorsement, Inspection, and Connection- in compliance with OGPe regulations.
• Manages the processes for Distributed Generation projects over 25 kVA, the disconnection and reconnection of private substations, and the issuance of electrical certifications for new customers.
• Supervises daily team operations by assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring timely execution of work while coordinating career development plans, goal‑setting, and integration of strategic initiatives across Engineering groups.
• Guides Engineers through coaching, identifying skill gaps, managing performance and succession planning, and addressing employee concerns using strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills to maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.
• Ensures technical consistency and quality by leading engineering practices, resolving escalated technical issues, and collaborating with other Supervising Engineers to align standards and process improvements with broader strategic objectives.
• Coordinates operational excellence and innovation by initiating process improvements, optimizing resource utilization across the group, and analyzing performance metrics to identify trends, improvement opportunities, and necessary enhancements to engineering standards.
• Tracks team expenses, payroll and ensures adherence to budget guidelines to support cost control.
• Monitors and guides team compliance with organizational standards and legal requirements to minimize risk and ensure operational integrity.
• Participates in and ensures team participation in critical restoration tasks and drills following storms and/or emergencies to maintain service continuity and operational safety.
• Executes and delegates additional responsibilities based on team and business needs to ensure continuity and responsiveness in operational responsiveness.

Additional Job Description:

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (preferred).

Experience

• 8 years’ relevant engineering experience performing functional role responsibilities, with at least 2 years’ experience leading engineering teams.
• 5 years’ experience working in Utility Electrical industry.
• Previous experience working in Distribution (preferred).

Additional experience may substitute for required education when it aligns with the competencies and knowledge necessary for the role:

• Master’s degree in Engineering may substitute when accompanied by a minimum of 6 years of progressive relevant engineering experience with at least 1 year experience leading engineering teams or as Sr. Engineer along with the required licenses and certifications.

Licenses/Certifications

Required:

• Professional Engineer License issued by the Examining Board for Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Landscape Architects of Puerto Rico.
• Be a member of the Puerto Rico College of Engineers and Land Surveyors (CIAPR).
• Valid driver’s license
