Essential Functions:

This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager and is responsible for Managing CNC operator along with overall safety, quality, production, and continuous improvement within the Machining areas. A major area of focus will be the implementation of Lean tools to drive improvements in manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities include providing leadership, organization, alignment, monitoring and compliance. It is also responsible to ensure activities of all assigned personnel result in the safe, successful, timely and cost-effective processing of orders to ensure customer satisfaction.

This role is identified as requiring ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance; therefore, qualified candidates must meet the definition of a U.S. Person (per EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15):
  • An individual who is granted U.S. citizenship, or
  • An individual who is granted U.S. permanent residence (i.e., a \"Green Card\" holder), or
  • An individual who is granted status as a \"protected person\"
Qualifications
Operational Responsibility:
  • Utilize machining background to make sound decisions on scheduling work and manpower on machines, as well as continuous improvements.
  • Work with the machine shop team to drive continuous improvement through driven measures, open team dialogue and a bias for action.
  • Assign jobs according to priorities in order to maintain scheduled completion dates, utilizing the most appropriate machines and employees for efficient production.
  • The Shop Supervisor will supervise and provide leadership to all employees involved in Machining in order to effectively meet company goals and objectives.
  • Manage resources within his/her area of responsibility to ensure staffing and equipment levels match business activity levels.
  • Coach and motivate employees in the performance of their jobs and look for new ways to continually improve operations, through focused efforts and initiatives.
  • Supervises employees by checking product in all stages of production to maintain a high standard of quality and quantity in accordance with AS9100 and Company requirements.
  • Orients, trains and instructs all employees in the safe and efficient performance of their duties.
  • Promotes, maintains, and enforces safe and healthy working conditions for all employees in accordance with legislative requirements and Company standards.
  • Ensures equipment is safe in order to produce expected quality and quantity of product.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with fellow supervisors and internal quality control, in order to ensure a continuous flow of expected productivity throughout the plant.
  • Implement training programs to expand employee knowledge and ensure compliance to company rules and guidelines.
  • Effectively manages, and/or provides guidance to direct reports of hourly personnel relations including hiring, discipline, rewards and recognition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Develops and sustains cross departmental relationships through direct interaction, responsiveness and accountability. Maintains open communication with external and internal customers using appropriate tools as necessary.
Education or Equivalent:
  • 5 years machine shop experience on CNC mills, including set-ups and programming
  • 3 to 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of quality standards, including AS 9001
  • High-school diploma
Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
  • Must have strong knowledge of machines and machining practices.
  • Develop outstanding talent and build a cohesive, highly motivated team.
  • Established record of success in supervising a job shop and/or continuous production, multiple customer environment, with demonstrated ability to direct individuals and delegate responsibilities and tasks.
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable at both management and shop floor levels.
  • Must possess ability to bridge relationships with a variety of individuals and between various departments and levels of the organization.
  • Must possess and demonstrate knowledge and experience industry regulations and relevant safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Must possess computer skills with past experience using MS Office, spreadsheets and Visual systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, stand for long periods to perform job duties
  • Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 100 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material-handling equipment
  • Occasionally reaches overhead and reaches out or down to perform duties
  • Frequently climb steps, stairs, or ladders
  • Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
  • Frequently uses hand or fingers to manually inspect parts, tighten hardware & fixtures, and operate tools and material handling controls
  • Visual acuity to interpret readings on gauges and other measuring devices

Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:

  • Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (occasionally)
  • Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
  • Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (continually)

The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and use of safety footwear is required
