Job description

Overview

Shop Maintenance and Tooling Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintenance of various types of equipment, for maintaining tool crib processes and tool maintenance, as well as maintaining the entire building and company vehicles.

Essential Functions
  • Reads work orders and specifications to determine tasks and priorities; may initiate work orders to track verbal in-person maintenance requests
  • Troubleshoots and performs minor repair and maintenance of external building, grounds, plumbing, and other mechanical systems or equipment
  • Monitors fluid levels and adds/changes fluids including coolant to machines; safely transports and stores used coolant for collection by authorized waste vendor
  • Performs facility cleaning, including sweeping and mopping floors and other surface cleaning; cleans and sanitizes restrooms, breakrooms, and eyewash stations; empties trash and scrap bins as needed
  • Stocks and organizes materials and fixtures within the designated storage area
  • Collects and assembles all necessary tools, fixtures, etc. needed to complete a job in production
  • Record data in ERP, maintenance work order system, or other electronic storage
  • Safely and efficiently operates forklift and other material-handling equipment
  • Operates motor vehicle to traverse facility and obtain or deliver parts and supplies as needed
  • Using hand and power tools, cleaners, and lubricants for facility maintenance
  • Maintaining a safe, clean work environment and following all safety procedures
  • May participate in safety committee activities
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures; consistently utilizes all required personal protective equipment (PPE); attends and participates actively in safety training
  • Perform other tasks and/or assignments as required
  • Regular attendance on-site at workplace is required

Required Education And Work Experience
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience in CNC machining to understand machining concepts and tool feeds and speeds is preferred.
Other Required Skills And Abilities
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable safe driving record to meet insurance requirements
  • Forklift experience is preferred; forklift certification must be obtained upon hire and maintained through employment
  • Experience reading and accurately interpreting shop blueprints, technical drawings, customer specifications is required
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of facility maintenance is required
  • Experience using powered electric and/or pneumatic hand tools including grinders or sanders is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • ERP or Work Order system experience is preferred
  • Self-management skills including efficiency, sense of urgency, ability to adapt and respond to unexpected circumstances, and ability to juggle multiple projects, competing priorities, and meet concurrent deadlines
  • Appropriate written and verbal communication skills and consistently legible handwriting (English)
Physical Demands

To Perform The Essential Functions Of The Role, Employees Must Be Able To Perform The Following Activities With Or Without Reasonable Accommodations:

  • Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, and stand for long periods to perform job duties
  • Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 100 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material handling equipment
  • Frequently bend, crawl, stoop, squat or kneel
  • Frequently climb steps, stairs, or ladders
  • Accurately distinguish colors, letters, and numbers
  • Use hands and fingers to remove and install hardware, adjust controls, and operate tools
  • Use hands and fingers to operate computer and peripheral equipment
  • Visual ability to gauge distances, recognize and avoid obstacles
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:

  • Excessive noise (hearing protection required)
  • Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (regularly)
  • Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
  • Hazardous equipment, including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (continually)
  • Exposure to power sources and powered equipment (regularly)

The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and safety footwear is required.
