Job Description
This position is eligible for up to a $25,000 Sign On Bonus.
Position Summary:
In collaboration with the management team, focuses on daily department operations. Supervises personnel and coordinates shift activities of Nursing. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the mission and values at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. Serves as a role model for nurses, physicians, and department support staff, exhibiting the Core Values in all activities. Mentors under the Clinical Manager / Director and pursues management and leadership training within Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. May be assigned to special projects per Clinical Manager / Director consistent with strategic, fiscal, quality, and operational goals/targets.
In collaboration with management, coordinates the team to deliver patient care in a compassionate and ethical manner according to recognized standards and care model. Functions as the clinical & operating resource with designated hours of accountability exercising independent judgment. Ensures compliance with entity/department goals and clinical resource utilization. Promotes change and teamwork. Performs clinical duties of the patient care role related to professional specialty.
Education, License & Certification:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania/New York.
- Certification within area of expertise or practice preferred (Nursing Management, CCRN, CEN, etc.)
- BSN required within 3 years.
- Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
- Two years of recent clinical supervisory or charge nurse experience desired.
Essential Functions:
- Resource Utilization: Considers safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in planning and delivering nursing services. Manages staffing, adjusts schedules based on census or acuity, and monitors performance against budget targets. Develops and modifies programs to meet patient care and staff development needs.
- Leadership: Uses leadership principles to influence change, set priorities, and manage time. Collaborates with staff and leadership, resolves conflicts, and promotes multidisciplinary care. Keeps management informed of clinical issues and acts on their behalf in their absence.
- Quality of Practice: Monitors clinical practice, provides role modeling, oversees clinical operations, and ensures compliance with standards. Responds promptly to customer requests, fosters a supportive environment, and advances improvement activities.
- Collaboration: Establishes shift assignments, promotes teamwork, and utilizes communication tools to ensure clinical care compliance and goals. Collaborates with staff, physicians, and departments for optimal patient care.
- Compliance: Implements policies in accordance with regulations, maintains confidentiality, and develops educational programs. Stays current with advances in nursing practice and technology.
- Education/Professional Practice Evaluation: Pursues ongoing knowledge, evaluates personal practice, and adheres to standards and regulations.
- Advocacy/Ethics: Protects rights and safety of individuals, integrating ethics into practice.
- Research: Supports development and implementation of programs to meet care and staff development needs.
- Human Resource Stewardship: Guides staff, facilitates teamwork, delegates appropriately, and manages performance evaluations. Handles employee concerns and supports disciplinary actions in collaboration with management.
