Job Description

Join UChicago Medicine as a Central Sterile Processing Supervisor.

The Central Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for maintaining departmental operations in the Central Sterile work area. This includes preparing work schedules, assigning jobs, handling special requests, and performing related duties as assigned. Additionally, they ensure the organization, cleanliness, and environmental compliance of decontamination, sterilization, and storage areas. The supervisor must be proficient in available technology, such as the SPM inventory management system, and use independent judgment in their duties.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Supervise staff assembling and processing instrument sets, trays, case carts, and operating major equipment.
  2. Have the authority to direct and communicate assignments across all CSP responsibilities.
  3. Organize activities according to priorities based on the OR schedule.
  4. Review and evaluate daily workflow; adjust staffing as needed; advise management of staffing issues.
  5. Ensure all sterilization parameters are met, including steam, ETO, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Parasitic Acid; maintain records as required by regulatory agencies.
  6. Verify equipment and instrumentation functionality before use; report problems; initiate work orders or requisitions; shut off equipment when necessary.
  7. Perform regular audits of instrument trays and case carts for accuracy; document audits.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of OR instrumentation, medical terminology, and OR processes.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of all sterilization modalities.
  • Ability to serve as a resource to staff and customers.
  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor degree.
  • RN, LPN, or OR Tech with OR experience.
  • Experience with case carts and inventory management.
  • Experience working with bargaining unit employees.
  • Five years as a CS technician preferred.
  • Certification as a Central Service Technician preferred upon hire; required after 18 months.
