Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a skilled supervisor for the daily operations of the Components Laboratory. You will hire and supervise staff, participate in education and training, and ensure compliance with federal, state, ARCBS directives and safety policies.

Standard Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 10p-0630am. Pay: $72,000+ depending on relevant experience. Bachelor's degree is a plus; blood bank or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience is a plus.

• 3 years of related experience or equivalent mix of education and related experience.
• 1 year of lead or supervisory experience.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of blood products and related procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct daily operations of the Components department.
• Staff supervision including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and to enhance operational success and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and regional policies and procedures.
• Perform supervisory review of documents, invoices, monitoring, reconciliation, and timely payment of bills.
• Supervise inventory management and cost-effective routing practices.
• Ensure accurate electronic and physical inventories locations for products.
• Participate in documenting, troubleshooting, and preventing recurrence of department errors and customer concerns.
• Lead process improvements and suspect product/sample management.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

You will be responsible for the daily operations of the Components Laboratory. Hire and supervise staff. Participate in education and training activities. Ensure compliance with federal, state, ARCBS directives and regional policy and procedures and regulations. Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures in the work area. Always use applicable protective equipment, to prevent exposure to potentially infectious blood and body fluids.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and direct daily operations of the Components department
• Responsible for the supervision of staff and volunteers including, but not limited to, hiring, training, coaching, engaging, evaluating, and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and to enhance operational success and compliance. Responsible for staff training and certification of competency. Prepare work schedules and ensure appropriate coverage for assigned shift. Supervise all work processes and ensure work is performed accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and regional policies and procedures. Perform supervisory review of documents. Ensure Invoice monitoring, reconciliation, and timely payment of all bills.
• Supervise good inventory management practices. Ensure routine analysis of routes used to ensure the most cost-effective methods are in place.
• Ensure quality and quantity of manufacturing and distribution goals are met, including timelines. Ensure accurate electronic and physical inventories location for products are maintained.
• Participate in documenting, investigating, troubleshooting, and preventing recurrence of department errors, problems, and customer concerns/complaints. Communicate with Laboratory staff when necessary to resolve problems.
• Participate in process improvements within area of responsibility. Lead suspect product/sample management process.
• May participate in the validation of hardware, software, instrumentation, test kits, and procedures as directed. May perform, review, and approve quality control on products, reagents, equipment, and various test kits. Serve as departmental expert on the applicable computer systems. Maintain the required records and files.

Standard Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 10p-0630am

Pay Information: $72,000+ Depending on relevant experience.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

• Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
• 1 year of lead or supervisory experience.
• Must have effective communication and customer service skills. Knowledge of blood products, supplies, and the ability to interact with diverse customers (internal and external) is required. Ability to work on a team.
• Travel: Not required.
• The combination of a candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
