THE DEPARTMENT:

Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) leads campus effortsin the planning, development, and maintenance of the university'snatural and built environments in support of its academic mission.The department works to preserve and enhance CPP's history,aesthetics, physical assets, and natural ecosystems throughcoordinated planning, design, construction, and maintenance ofbuildings, transportation systems, infrastructure, landscaping, andother campus improvements. Acting as an advocate for the universityand its auxiliaries, FP&M ensures that facilities projects andservices meet scope, budget, operational, functional, andregulatory requirements. Comprised of approximately 160 facilitiesprofessionals, FP&M also provides ongoing facilities operationsand maintenance services, including custodial services,landscaping, recycling, building and mechanical trades, energy andutilities management, and fleet and automotive services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Operations

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of skilled automotive andequipment mechanics, as well as semi-skilled and unskilledmaintenance staff engaged in the maintenance, repair, andmodification of automotive, maintenance, landscape, agricultural,and construction equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Assign and prioritize work, monitor productivity, and inspectcompleted repairs to ensure compliance with safety standards,operational requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Provide customer service and maintain effective workingrelationships with internal customers, vendors, and serviceproviders.
  • Perform and oversee diagnostic, repair, and modification workconsistent with industry standards for automotive and heavyequipment maintenance.
  • Repair responsibilities include, but are not limited to,automatic transmissions, body and body systems, brake systems,chassis, suspension and steering systems, driveline components,electrical systems, engines, hydraulic systems, and fabrication,machining, and welding activities.
  • Ensure repairs are completed accurately, safely, andefficiently to maintain fleet reliability and operationalreadiness.
  • Plan, schedule, perform, and oversee preventive maintenanceservices for fleet vehicles and equipment in accordance withmanufacturer recommendations and industry best practices.
  • Services include, but are not limited to, oil and filterchanges, transmission servicing, battery maintenance, coolingsystem servicing, chassis lubrication, differential servicing,engine tune-ups, fuel injection system maintenance, hydraulic fluidreplacement, vehicle cleaning, inspections, and preventivemaintenance recordkeeping.
  • Monitor maintenance schedules to maximize equipmentperformance, reliability, and service life.
Fleet Management and Asset Administration
  • Maintain and administer the computerized maintenance managementsystem (CMMS) and supporting manual recordkeeping systems incollaboration with Customer Service, Facilities Planning &Management leadership, and administrative staff.
  • Track vehicle and equipment utilization, condition, maintenancehistory, inspections, labor, parts inventory, materials, andpurchasing activities.
  • Coordinate and process orders for parts, materials, supplies,and other maintenance-related items necessary to support the repair, preventive maintenance, and operational needs of fleetvehicles and equipment.
  • Analyze maintenance data and prepare operational, financial,and compliance reports to support fleet management decisions andasset planning.
Fueling Station Operations
  • In collaboration with the Director of Operations &Maintenance, oversee the computerized fueling station managementsystem and associated fueling infrastructure.
  • Monitor fuel usage, inventory levels, fueling stationoperational status, underground storage tank leak detectionsystems, and equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports to ensureefficient operations, environmental compliance, and uninterruptedfueling services for fleet vehicles and equipment.
Regulatory Compliance and Stakeholder Coordination
  • Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, local, andCSU systemwide agencies regarding fleet operations, vehiclemaintenance, fueling station management, environmental compliance,and automotive repair regulations.
  • Coordinate inspections, audits, and required reporting toensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and CSUfleet policies.
  • Monitor and coordinate compliance with CSU fleet managementpolicies, including vehicle acquisition, utilization, replacementplanning, maintenance standards, and fuel management.
  • Ensure adherence to regulations governing government fleets,including emissions requirements, alternative fuel andsustainability mandates, idling restrictions, underground storagetank compliance, hazardous waste handling, and air qualitystandards.
  • Maintain accurate fleet records and support reporting relatedto vehicle inventory, fuel usage, greenhouse gas emissions,maintenance activity, and regulatory inspections.
  • Monitor changes in laws, regulations, executive orders, and CSUsystemwide fleet policies and update FPM leadershipaccordingly.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, vendors, CSUadministration, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure fleetoperations, fueling infrastructure, and maintenance activitiesremain compliant, efficient, and aligned with operational andsustainability goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in-state valid Californiadriver's license required
  • In addition to the experience required of a LeadAutomotive/Equipment Mechanic, the abilities of the SupervisingAutomotive/Equipment Mechanic normally would be acquired throughthree or more years of experience as a journey-level automotive orequipment mechanic, including one to two years in a lead orsupervisory capacity.
  • In addition to the knowledge required of the LeadAutomotive/Equipment Mechanic, the Supervising Automotive/EquipmentMechanic must possess a thorough knowledge of effective supervisorypractices and techniques; working knowledge of job design and worksequencing applicable to an automotive or mechanical equipmentshop; working knowledge of alternative fuel vehicle technology;thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal safety codespertaining to mechanic shops; working knowledge of campus policiesand programs applying to maintenance of campus fleet vehicles; andworking knowledge applicable state and federal laws and regulationsrelated to automotive and equipment oversight and maintenance.
  • In addition to the abilities required of the LeadAutomotive/Equipment Mechanic, the Supervising Automotive/EquipmentMechanic must be able to maintain currency in equipment innovationsand advances and provide technical leadership; plan and direct thework of skilled workers and their semi-skilled and unskilledassistants; determine and coordinate staffing, material andequipment needs for multiple jobs and projects; and ensure theaccuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using fleet maintenance anddiagnostic systems and tools, such as TMA (The MaintenanceAuthority), Microsoft Excel, Mitchell OnDemand, Gasboy PCCFM,Gasboy CFN2, onboard vehicle systems, flow charts, and vehiclediagnostic equipment.

CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the Teamster bargaining unit 6. The CSUClassification Standards for this position are located on CSU Classification Standards website. The CSU Salary Scheduleis located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary rangefor this position according to the respective skill level is:minimum $7,497 and maximum $10,921 per month.
