Job summary

SMC Ltd. in Wisconsin seeks a Working Leader for the Automation team to drive new program development and oversee operations with robust automation solutions. You will supervise activities, maintain equipment, and pursue process improvements aligned with business goals.

Responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams, delivering on-time, cost-conscious projects, and mentoring staff. Travel may be required; strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising technical personnel with a minimum of 5 years’ automation experience.
• Demonstrated ability to positively motivate team members.
• Demonstrated ability to support employee development on relevant skills.
• Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems.
• Technical skills in automation-related disciplines and methods including PLC programming, Wittmann robots, electrical & pneumatic schematics, EOATs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer proficiency; Microsoft Office Suite, and SolidWorks.
• Ability to fluently read, write, speak and understand English.

Job Summary:

Working leader of the Automation team who supports New Program Development and Operations through the supervision of activities required to develop robust automation solutions. Maintains existing automation equipment and processes along with supporting improvement opportunities while keeping SMC’s business interests in mind.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Cost:

• Research, plan, and develop robust automation processes that are on-time and under budget.

Quality/Safety:

• Provides robust and complete solutions that satisfy quality and safety requirements.
• Ensure overall team compliance with company policies and procedures through training and periodic review.
• Analyze manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure they are operating within specification, meet ergonomic standards, and are safe.

Leadership:

• Supports a team culture where all participating employees feel engaged, involved, supported, and challenged to exceed expectations.
• Leads cross functional teams.
• Provides guidance and support to team members. Performs annual reviews, calibrating performance across team.
• Maintains and develops staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees; grow staff capabilities by coaching, mentoring, and providing personal development opportunities.

Other Position Duties:

• Works with all departments required to successfully complete project tasks efficiently.
• Assists in the review and acceptance of new programs and processes into production.
• Research, develop, and implement new technologies that align to business needs.
• Create and present cost justifications supported with data.
• Assigns tasks, provides guidance, and aligns priorities of projects to team members.
• Travel may be required to meet customer needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

• Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

• The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
• Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, and Hearing.

Equipment Used:

Computer, printer, telephone/cell phone, calculator, CAD software, engineering equipment, machines, and fax machine.

This position does supervise employees.
