Job summary

Mediacom Communications in the United States seeks an Aerial Construction Supervisor to oversee in-house aerial construction, ensure safety, and drive progress across assigned areas. The role requires coordinating crews, equipment, permits, and QA, while maintaining strong stakeholder relations with utilities and the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates degree preferred.
• 2 years’ CATV construction experience or 4+ years’ broadband technician experience.
• 1–2 years’ supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license; able to pass a DOT Physical.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all inhouse Aerial Construction for assigned operational areas.
• Draw and sketch installation and location of equipment such as amplifiers and cables.
• Ensure permits/easements are acquired as needed.
• Approve material orders for construction.
• Direct personnel, materials, and equipment to given locations within the system.
• Inspect pole installations for compliance with work specifications.
• Log work completed and prepare progress reports as required.
• Provide information about problems or potential problems that might impede progress.
• Travel to and regularly inspect the progress and quality of construction projects.
• Interview, hire, monitor, evaluate, and discipline field personnel.
• Monitor safety practices and hold safety meetings as required.
• Develop and maintain good relations with utilities, public and government agencies.
• Ensure inventory and resource planning to maintain operations.
• Act as a liaison between other departments.
• Perform quality control inspections on field personnel and recommend training.
• Perform other duties as required.

Position Overview

Supervises all phases of aerial construction and verifies that in-house aerial crews perform work according to the best interest of the Company. Responsible for the safety and progress of construction activity and personnel.

Position Responsibilities

• Oversee all inhouse Aerial Construction for assigned operational areas.
• Draw and sketch installation and location of equipment, such as amplifiers, power supplies and cable.
• Ensure required permits, easements, etc. are acquired as needed.
• Approve material orders for construction.
• Direct personnel, materials, and equipment to given locations within the system.
• Inspect pole installations to ensure compliance with work specifications.
• Log work completed and prepare progress reports as required.
• Provide information as directed, about problems or potential problems, which might impede progress.
• Travel to and regularly inspect the progress and quality of construction projects performed by system personnel.
• Perform interviewing, hiring, monitoring, evaluating, and disciplining of field personnel.
• Monitor safety practices and holding safety meetings as required.
• Develop and maintain good relations with utilities, general public and governmental agencies.
• Ensure thorough inventory procedures, required equipment and material levels by effective planning, ordering and conservation of physical resources, to ensure optimum plant operations.
• Act as a liaison between other departments.
• Responsible for performing quality control inspections on all field personnel on a regular basis to assure quality and recommend additional training as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
• Preferred - 2 years’ experience as a CATV Construction lineman or 4+ years’ as a Broadband Specialist IV or V system technician or equivalent cable technician experience.
• Preferred – 1 to 2 years’ supervisory experience.
• Valid Driver’s license; satisfactory driving record
• Ability to pass a DOT Physical
• Knowledge of all construction tools and equipment including bucket trucks, lasher, blocks, pulling grips, stand/cable trailers, cable layers, hoists, bolt cutters, lay-up sticks and hand lines.
• Knowledge of construction, electrical codes (related state and local codes), NESC, NEC codes and safety precautions.
• Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Ability to read and utilize system maps and plans.
• Ability to travel and stay out of town when required.
• Ability to interact with customers and co-workers; ability to communicate verbally.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Microsoft Office experience preferred (Excel-Word-Outlook)

Physical Requirements

• Physical effort represented by frequent handling of heavy objects (approx. 50-100 lbs.) and materials, or heavy hand tools.
