Job summary

Phillips, Inc. is seeking a Supervisor to oversee earthwork and concrete structure construction. You will direct dirt flow, mass grading, and concrete work, ensuring tasks meet project specs, safety standards, and critical path alignment.

The role requires coordinating crews, reading blueprints, and maintaining accurate records. Two years of related supervisory experience and CPR/First Aid/Confined Space Entry certifications are preferred.

  • Transmit and explain work orders to laborers clearly and accurately.
  • Verify materials against work orders and inform departments of issues.
  • Prepare and maintain records of employee time, receipts, and inspections.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback.

Job description

Summary

The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in earthwork and concrete structure construction, including dirt flow operations, mass grading, and structural concrete work, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, safely, and in proper construction sequence according to project specifications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staffing levels for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads.

  • Direct earthwork operations, including cut/fill balance, dirt flow, hauling, and grading, to maintain project schedule and material placement quality.

  • Oversee construction of concrete structures, including formwork, reinforcement placement, concrete placement, and finishing, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the overall construction sequence and coordinate crew activities so work supports the project's critical path.

  • Collaborate with workers and managers to resolve work-related issues.

  • Review work throughout the work process and at completion to ensure it has been performed to standards.

  • Transmit and explain work orders to laborers, ensuring clarity and understanding.

  • Verify specifications of materials loaded or unloaded against information contained in work orders.

  • Inform designated employees or departments of items loaded or problems encountered.

  • Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals.

  • Perform the same work duties as those supervised, or perform more difficult or skilled tasks to assist in their performance.

  • Prepare and maintain records and reports of critical information such as employee time and wages, daily receipts, or inspection results.


Supervisory Responsibilities


  • May supervise up to 10 employees, providing guidance, training, and corrective feedback.


Requirements


  • Ability to perform a variety of duties which may change often; work within standards of accuracy.

  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods; use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.

  • Capable of lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and other climbing devices; carry tools and equipment.

  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.

  • Excellent vision and hearing (naturally or with correction).

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, documents, instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Proficient in routine report writing.

  • Knowledge of earthwork operations, including mass grading, cut/fill quantities, and dirt flow/haul sequencing.

  • Familiarity with concrete structure construction methods, including formwork, reinforcement, placement, and finishing.

  • Understanding of construction sequence and ability to coordinate work activities to support the project schedule.

  • Effective communication skills are essential.


Education and Experience


  • High school diploma preferred.

  • At least two years of related supervisory experience.

  • Prior hands‑on experience with earthwork and concrete structure construction required.

  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Confined Space Entry are required.
