Under the general direction of the Deputy Division Chief of the Division of Design, the incumbent is responsible for providing essential project support to assist in the delivery of high-quality transportation projects by the districts and external partners. This responsibility is accomplished in collaboration with other division offices, District Design Liaisons, and Project Delivery Coordinators. Some key responsibilities include geometric design, performance-based design, route matters, freeway agreements, encroachment and utility policies, resolution of necessities, and approval of exceptions that are not delegated to the districts. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for managing the office's business plan, workload, resources, and the supervision of direct report staff.

This is a Caltrans Promotional examination.
Applicants must have a permanent civil service appointment with the Department of Transportation and meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date to participate in the examination.
This examination will utilize an evaluation of each candidate’s experience and education (E&E) compared to a standard developed from the Class Specification. For this reason, it is especially important that each candidate take special care in accurately and completely filling out his or her State application (STD. 678). List all experience relevant to the “Minimum Qualifications”.
This examination will not establish a civil service list; therefore, candidates will not have the ability to transfer their eligibility to other departments. Candidates will be notified of their examination results.
