Introduction

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse looking to make a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities? If so, we invite you to take this opportunity to join our team! The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) – South Region - is accepting applications for one (1) full-time first shift Supervising Nurse position that will be based in Norwich, CT. This position will be assigned to the Department of Developmental Services Public Programs and is essential to meeting the health and safety needs of individuals living in Community Living Arrangements (CLAs) geographic to the Norwich Office.

  2. Full-time | 80 Hours bi-weekly
  3. 1st Shift Monday – Friday | 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
  4. Work schedule flexibility is required to meet the needs of the agency.
  5. Must have a valid driver’s license and be required to travel.

In your role as a Supervising Nurse, you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Plan, organize and direct health services for an assigned program, unit(s), facility or geographical area;
  2. Ensure that goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to individuals;
  3. Provide clinical guidance to nursing staff;
  4. Select, develop, motivate and evaluate staff;
  5. Conduct performance evaluations;
  6. Monitor the quality of documentation, records and other information concerning services and care;
  7. Ensure that resources are available to provide quality services;
  8. Participate in the development of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services;
  9. Participate in the development of long-range plans for health care programs;
  10. Act as a liaison with other units, agencies and outside organizations;
  11. Prepare, analyze and evaluate reports and other information concerning the delivery of services;
  12. Respond to psychiatric or medical emergencies;
  13. Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience. A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience:

  • Experience working with private sector and families
  • Experience with supervisory responsibilities in an inpatient health care setting
  • Experience providing nursing care to adults with an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Connecticut. Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have some exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive/abusive individuals; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
