The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States, renowned as the world's busiest and most skilled emergency response agency. Its main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and public safety services across the five boroughs.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention aims to prevent fire and other emergencies by identifying hazards, enforcing the Fire Code, reviewing safety plans, licensing fire protection companies, certifying safety personnel, and educating the public. It collaborates with other city agencies and departments to ensure safety and compliance.
The FDNY seeks six (6) full-time Associate Fire Protection Inspectors (Level II) for the High Rise Unit. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Inspector, responsibilities include conducting technical inspections, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and laws, administering practical tests for Fire and Life Safety Director candidates, and maintaining professional interactions with the public and colleagues.
A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License in New York State.
Knowledge of the Fire Code, NYC Building Code, NFPA standards, inspection procedures, and excellent communication and analytical skills.
This position is open to qualified candidates under the 55-a Program for persons with disabilities. Residency in NYC is generally required within 90 days of appointment, with some exceptions. The role offers a salary range of $65,160.00 – $90,603.00 and is classified as Mid-Senior level, full-time employment in the government administration sector.
